Confirming the impact origin of the São Miguel do Tapuio structure, northeastern Brazil

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The São Miguel do Tapuio structure (SMT) is a remarkable, nearcircular feature of about 21 km diameter, centered at 5°37.6′ S, 41°23.3′ W in Piauí state, northeastern Brazil. The structure is located within the sedimentary strata of the Paleozoic–Mesozoic Parnaíba Basin and predominantly comprises sandstones of the Devonian Pimenteiras and ...

From Siliciclastics to Carbonates and Black shales: Deciphering Sedimentary Continuity and Discontinuity in the Devonian Landscapes of the Volga-Ural Petroleum Province

open access: yesGeoresursy
Analyses of the three predominant types of sedimentation – siliciclastic, carbonate and black shale – revealed their discontinuity/continuity across various facies environments within the Middle and Late Devonian of the central part of the Volga-Urals ...

Toarcian oceanic anoxic event: An assessment of global causes using belemnite C isotope records

open access: yes, 2005
Two hypotheses have been proposed to explain simultaneous large negative excursions (up to 7% PeeDee belemnite) in bulk carbonate (delta(13)C(carb)) and organic carbon isotope records (delta(13)C(org)) from black shales marking the Toarcian oceanic ...

Geophysical investigation of the Santa Marta impact structure—Piauí State, Brazil

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The Santa Marta impact structure in northeastern Brazil, recognized as a partially preserved complex crater, was investigated through an integrated geophysical study employing magnetotelluric (MT) and gravity methods. Our research provides constraints on the crater's subsurface architecture.

Paleoenvironmental reconstruction and carbon and sulfur isotopes perturbation in black shales of the Paleocene Bolander member in the N’kapa Formation, Douala Sub-basin Cameroon

open access: yesGeosystems and Geoenvironment
Black shales deposited across the Paleocene Bolander member of the N’kapa Formation are considered important source rock and shale gas reservoirs in the Douala sub-basin.

Revisiting the Hummeln structure, Sweden—A shallow marine Cambrian impact structure

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Hummeln is a simple impact structure located in south‐eastern Sweden. It is approximately 1.2 km in diameter and almost completely covered by a lake. Here, we present the first detailed investigation of impactites and mapping of the 164.25 m deep drill core Hummeln‐1 with a focus on impact metamorphism and the impact process.

Black shales – an unconventional source of noble metals and rhenium

open access: yesЗаписки Горного института
The content of noble metals and rhenium in the Lower Paleozoic black shales of the eastern Baltic paleobasin in Russia was estimated. Shales are enriched in platinoids (PGM to 0.12 g/t) and rhenium (to 1.54 g/t).

Mineralogy and geochemistry of the Cambrain Shuijingtuo Formation black shales from Western Hubei, China: implications on enrichment of critical metals and paleoenvironment

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Black shales have attracted the attention of numerous researchers not only due to their high potential as hydrocarbon source rocks and shale gas reservoirs, but also to the enrichment of critical metal elements in black shale series.

The geochemistry of metalliferous black shales : understanding primary enrichments, metamorphic processes, and the role of metal-rich black shales in archiving earth evolution

open access: yes, 2017
Black shales offer an important context to study the evolution of the oceans and atmosphere. As an archive of past climatic, evolutionary and geodynamic events in Earth history they offer the opportunity to further understand the nature of such events ...
