Trace elements in black and oil shales

Solid Fuel Chemistry, 2007
Data on the abundance of trace elements in oil and black shales, as well as and the average concentrations of trace elements in these caustobioliths, are considered. In general, oil shales are enriched in Li, Be, B, Rb, Ta, and Se and depleted in Mo, Re, Ag, Au, V, Th, Cu, Hg (and, perhaps, W, As, and U) relative to black shales.

The Black Shale of Southwestern Virginia

The Journal of Geology, 1924
Conclusions as to the age and correlation of the black shale in several sections measured in southwestern Virginia are presented by the writer. There are recognized in this area the Genesee shale, Portage shale, and Chemung formation, of Devonian age, and a black shale correlated with the Chattanooga shale but here called the Big Stone Gap shale, of ...

Devonian and Mississippian black shales of Kentucky

1986
Abstract A series of road cuts exposes black shale of Devonian and Mississippian age along I-64, about 49 mi (79 km) east of Lexington, Kentucky (Fig. 1). The entire sequence can best be visited from separate approaches. The lower part of the sequence (Fig. 1, locality A) should be approached from the west on the eastbound lanes of I-64;
