First Report of Black Sigatoka in Bolivia
Black Sigatoka, caused by Mycosphaerella fijiensis, is the most important disease of banana worldwide (1). It affects cultivars of the Cavendish subgroup that are used for export and important, locally consumed cooking and dessert bananas and plantains, reducing yields by 50% or more.

QCAV-4, the first genetically modified Cavendish (cv. Grand Nain) banana resistant to Fusarium wilt tropical race 4 approved for commercial production and consumption. [PDF]
Summary Bananas (Musa spp.) are a major fruit crop worldwide, with the Cavendish cultivar dominating the export industries, which are based primarily in the Americas and the Philippines. The sustainability of banana production in these, and other regions, is under threat from the fungal disease Fusarium wilt tropical race 4 (TR4) which kills Cavendish ...

Influence Of Crop Management And Soil On Plantain [Musa spp. z AAB Group) Response To Black Sigatoka Infection In Southeastern Nigeria [PDF]
An on-farm survey was carried out to assess the severity of black sigatoka caused by Mycosphaerella fijiensis Morelet on plantain in southeastern Nigeria. Two different geomor-phological zones (Meander belts and Coastal plain sands) were surveyed.

Molecular Diagnostics in the Mycosphaerella Leaf Spot Disease Complex of Banana and for Radopholus similis [PDF]
Mycosphaerella leaf spots and nematodes threaten banana cultivation worldwide. The Mycosphaerella disease complex involves three related ascomycetous fungi: Mycosphaerella fijiensis, M. musicola and M. eumusae.

Plantain-derived Diploid Hybrids (TMP2x) with Black Sigatoka Resistance [PDF]
Plantain (Musa spp., AAB group), a triploid (2n = 3x = 33) giant perennial herb of the tropics, is a natural interspecific hybrid between the two wild banana species M. acuminata Colla. and M. balbisiana Colla. These diploid species contributed the A and B genomes, respectively (Simmonds, 1962).

Efficient screening procedure for black sigatoka disease of banana
Current methods for screening for reaction of Mycosphaerella fijiensis are mostly field based and subject to variability caused by weather conditions. The objective of this study was to develop an efficient screening procedure for black sigatoka disease in order to provide a reliable controlled environment screening method.
