AbstractBACKGROUND: Wheat shows selectivity to pyroxsulam, a new broad‐spectrum herbicide with high activity on blackgrass. Studies were performed to establish whether uptake, translocation or metabolism were responsible for the differential activity in wheat compared with blackgrass.

Survey of the presence of wild oat and blackgrass in parts of the United Kingdom
Weed Research, 1974Summary:The survey was carried out over an area representing about 47% of the cereal acreage of the United Kingdom.Estimates of the acreage of fields containing wild oat (Avena fatua L. and A. ludoviciana Dur) ranged from 15% (Northern Ireland) to 74% (England, South West Region).

Whole-plant glasshouse experiments were conducted to examine herbicide resistance in selected populations of blackgrass (Alopecurus myosuroides HUDS.). Three populations with either non-target-site resistance (NTSR) or target-site resistance (TSR) showed reduced sensitivity to the herbicides fenoxaprop and mesosulfuron + iodosulfuron.

A blackgrass population has developed resistance to fenoxaprop-P-ethyl following field selection with the herbicide for 6 consecutive years. Within this population, 95% of the individuals are also resistant to flupyrsulfuron. Both the inheritance(s) and the mechanism(s) of resistances were investigated by making crosses between the resistant and a ...

Abstract Blackgrass is a common winter annual grass weed in autumn-sown crop rotations in Atlantic European countries. Control with a minimum amount of herbicides in integrated cropping systems would be facilitated by modeling the effect of cropping systems on its demography.

SummaryIn trials carried out in 1978–80, blackgrass populations in winter wheat growing on heavy soil were substantially reduced by all chemical treatments tested, the least effective being methabenzthiazuron. Wild oat populations were also reduced by all treatments except chlofop‐isobutyl and methabenzthiazuron.

Abstract Simplification of cropping systems often leads to an increase in weed populations which require an intensive use of herbicides to maintain populations at an acceptable level. Due to a heavy reliance on herbicides and a lack of cultural control measures, herbicide-resistant blackgrass (Alopecurus myosuroides Huds.) biotypes appeared recently ...

In the growing season 2002-2003 two field experiments were carried out in winter wheat on the heavy clay soil of the coastal polder area at Zevekote to study the response of blackgrass (Alopecurus myosuroides Huds.) resistant or somewhat less sensitive to a wide variety of herbicides (clodinafop-propargyl, fenoxaprop-P-ethy1; flupyrsulfuron-methyl ...
