Randomized phase II study investigating pazopanib versus weekly paclitaxel in relapsed or progressive urothelial cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Purpose: Two previous single-arm trials have drawn conflicting conclusions regarding the activity of pazopanib in urothelial cancers after failure of platinum-based chemotherapy.

Transcriptomic validation of a 7,12 Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA)‐induced leukemia rat model: Parallels with human leukemogenesis

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
7,12‐Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) could induce leukemia and other types of cancers in rat models. Transcriptomics revealed gene expression profile that parallels with human leukemia. DMBA‐induced differential gene expression could validate the developed rat model.

Plasmacytoid variant of bladder cancer is a histological factor of extremely unfavorable prognosis of recurrence-free and cancer-specific survival in organ-preserving surgical treatment of bladder cancer: clinical observations of 4 patients

open access: yesPatologìâ
Organ-sparing surgical treatment of muscle-invasive bladder cancer is considered a treatment of choice in carefully selected patients, as it can provide satisfactory survival rates and high quality of life due to preservation of the bladder.

Evolving concepts of micropapillary variant urothelial carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Micropapillary variant (MPV) urothelial carcinoma remains an uncommon, challenging to treat entity. Recent research has emerged that examines the genetic expression profile of MPV urothelial carcinoma and provides a new perspective on this challenging to

Urothelial carcinoma of the bladder in a pediatric patient

open access: yesCanadian Urological Association Journal, 2016
Urothelial carcinoma of the bladder in children and adolescents is rare. The World Health Organization database has recorded approximately 80 patients under age 16 that have been diagnosed with papillary bladder tumour since 1968.1 We are reporting on our case of urothelial carcinoma diagnosed in a 14-year-old male who presented with painless gross ...

Characterization of the extracellular matrix from human and dog umbilical cords

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The extracellular matrix is important for maintaining tissue morphogenesis and homeostasis; it can also be used as a biomaterial for the production of biological scaffolds. Particularly, the umbilical cord has shown potential in the production of scaffolds for small‐diameter vessels.

Collision metastasis of prostatic adenocarcinoma and urothelial carcinoma of the bladder

open access: yesUrology Annals, 2018
The incidence of concomitant prostate adenocarcinoma found in patients with muscle-invasive bladder carcinoma is not uncommon, reaching up to 21%–28%. However, the presence of collision metastasis involving prostate cancer and bladder cancer within the ...

Capsaicin triggers autophagic cell survival which drives epithelial mesenchymal transition and chemoresistance in bladder cancer cells in an Hedgehog-dependent manner [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bladder cancer (BC) is a common urologic tumor characterized by high risk of recurrence and mortality. Capsaicin (CPS), used as an intravesical drug for overactive bladder, was demonstrated to induce cell death in different cancer cells including BC ...

A dose‐finding population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic model of ginisortamab, an anti‐gremlin‐1 monoclonal antibody, in patients with solid tumours

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aims Ginisortamab, a first‐in‐class human monoclonal antibody for the treatment of advanced solid tumours, binds to gremlin‐1 and restores bone morphogenetic protein signalling. We used pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) modelling to characterize the relationship between ginisortamab dose and serum gremlin‐1 binding, using model‐based simulations ...

Malignant priapism due to penile metastases. Case series and literature review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Malignant priapism secondary to penile metastases is a rare condition. This term was originally used by Peacock in 1938 to describe a condition of painful induration and erection of the penis due to metastatic infiltration by a neoplasm.
