Although, it is well recognized that harnessing wind energy is highly indispensable, but collisions of birds at wind turbines has also developed simultaneously, concerning multiple bird species. With wind being strongly affected by the landscape and the behaviour of birds also being strongly influenced by the landscape, the main objective of the thesis

This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Study on damping characteristics of steam turbine hollow vane with damper
A vane used in a low pressure end of steam turbine is usually fixed to a shroud and a casing by welding both ends. In such a vane structure, the damping in loading operation is comprised of the material damping and the aerodynamic damping, because the ...

On Blade Arrangement for Multi-Blade Rotors
This paper concerns the blades of multi-bladed water-pumping windmills when they have variable mass and centre of mass. The paper explores blade arrangement strategies that will minimize the eccentricity of the rotor centre of mass and hence any rotor-induced vibration.

Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Blade by Blade Tip Clearance Measurement [PDF]
This paper describes a capacitance-based tip clearance measurement system which engineers have used in the most demanding turbine test applications. The capacitance probe has survived extended use in a major European gas turbine manufacturer's high-temperature demonstrator unit, where it functioned reliably at a turbine entry temperature in excess of ...

Dislocation cutting of γ′ precipitates in Ni‐based superalloys is investigated by linking atomistic simulations with discrete dislocation dynamics. The critical cutting stress is shown to be governed by the antiphase boundary energy, while line tension effects promote edge‐preferred cutting.

A Review on Performance Calculation and Design Methodologies for Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbine Blades
The efficient, low-cost, and large-scale development and utilization of offshore wind energy resources is an inevitable trend for future growth. With the continuous increase in the scale of wind turbines and their expansion into deep-sea locations, there
