Reliability-based design of wind turbine blades

Structural Safety, 2011
Reliability-based design of wind turbine blades requires identification of the important failure modes/limit states along with stochastic models for the uncertainties and methods for estimating the reliability. In the present paper it is described how reliability-based design can be applied to wind turbine blades.

Minimizing Blade Dynamic Response in a Bladed Disk Through Design Optimization

AIAA Journal, 2005
A study is presented on minimizing the maximum dynamic response in a mistuned bladed disk through design optimization. A well-studied spring-lumped-mass system was used to model a bladed disk, and the problem was formulated as a constrained, nonlinear optimization process.

Transonic Blade Design: Quo Vadis?

Volume 10: Turbomachinery — Axial Flow Fan & Compressor Aerodynamics; Axial Flow Turbine Aerodynamics
Abstract The design of efficient transonic fan and compressor airfoils is still a major challenge. Efficiency in this context means the lowest possible losses and a wide, stable operating range. The challenge is mainly due to the presence of shock waves, their complex structures and highly unsteady behavior.

Innovative Rotor Blade Design Code

2009
The competitive advantage in helicopter world market is to develop a rotor design ‘tailored’ on specific, more demanding performances such as higher cruise speed and higher cruise altitude, but, at the same time, guaranteeing the maximum level of comfort for the crew and the passengers.

Blade Design, Manufacture, and Testing

2011
In Chap. 5 it was shown that the design of an optimum power-extracting blade is straightforward, at least when tip losses can be ignored. However, the last chapter highlighted the importance of starting for small wind turbine blades, and the associated issues of resistive and aerodynamic torque.
