Ionic‐Electronic Hydrogel‐Liquid Metal Composite Bilayer with Tissue‐Adaptive and Adhesive Properties for Closed‐Loop Neuroprosthetic System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hydrogel–liquid metal composite peripheral nerve interface (HLB‐PNI) combines electrically durable electrodes and tissue‐adhesive hydrogel for tissue‐adaptive implantation. In nerve‐injured rats, it enables the diagnosis of sensory‐motor connectivity via stimulation and neural signal recording.

2-D CFD Computations of the Two-Bladed Darrieus-Type Wind Turbine

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2018
In spite of the attractiveness of CFD methods and advanced measurement methods, there is still no full analysis of aerodynamic blade loads for vertical axis Darrieus-type wind turbines.

Comparison of Shell and Solid Finite Element Models for the Static Certification Tests of a 43 m Wind Turbine Blade

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
A commercial 43 m wind turbine blade was tested under static loads. During these tests, loads, displacements, and local strains were recorded. In this work, the blade was modeled using the finite element method.

Uncertainty identification of blade-mounted lidar-based inflow wind speed measurements for robust feedback–feedforward control synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesWind Energy Science, 2019
The current trend toward larger wind turbine rotors leads to high periodic loads across the components due to the non-uniformity of inflow across the rotor.

All‐Aqueous Pullulan Fibers Enabling Visible‐to‐Near‐Infrared Waveguiding with Mechanical and Thermal Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Pullulan, a biomass‐derived polysaccharide, is transformed into transparent optical fibers using a solvent‐free borax hydrogel‐spinning method. The fibers outperform PMMA with ≈200 MPa tensile strength and 200 °C stability, while uniquely guiding visible‐to‐NIR light and enabling additive‐free humidity sensing.

Aeroelastic Study of Downwind and Upwind Configurations Under Different Power Levels of Wind Turbines

open access: yesMachines
Downwind wind turbines offer potential for reduced blade loads and lighter designs, yet systematic aeroelastic comparisons against upwind configurations remain limited, especially for multi-megawatt scales.

Analysis of the DANAERO wind turbine field database to assess the importance of different state‐of‐the‐art blade element momentum (BEM) correction models

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2021
Aerodynamic loads of wind turbine blades are often predicted by manufacturers using the blade element momentum (BEM) theory, for which many corrections have been proposed in the literature.

Prediction of low frequency and impulsive sound radiation from horizontal axis wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Theoretical models to predict the radiation of low frequency and impulsive sound from horizontal axis wind turbines due to three sources: (1) steady blade loads; (2) unsteady blade loads due to operation in a ground shear; (3) unsteady loads felt by the ...

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...
