Toward Scalable Solutions for Silver‐Based Gas Diffusion Electrode Fabrication for the Electrochemical Conversion of CO2 – A Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the preparation techniques for silver‐based gas diffusion electrodes used for the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (eCO2R) are systematically reviewed and compared with respect to their scalability. In addition, physics‐based and data‐driven modeling approaches are discussed, and a perspective is given on how modeling can aid ...

Optical Fan Blade Profile Measurement in Rotating Turbomachinery [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 2: Aircraft Engine; Marine; Microturbines and Small Turbomachinery, 1990
An optical technique for measuring the profile of a fan blade at a range of radial heights in a rotating turbofan by laser triangulation has been developed and tested. The technique has been successfully used on fan rigs and on full size engines. The data thus obtained is now being used to verify the current models of fan blade behaviour.

Mechanisms of burst release from pH-responsive polymeric microparticles. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Microencapsulation of drugs into preformed polymers is commonly achieved through solvent evaporation techniques or spray drying. We compared these encapsulation methods in terms of controlled drug release properties of the prepared microparticles and ...

Role of Histidine‐Containing Peptoids in Accelerating the Kinetics of Calcite Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic histidine‐containing peptoids mimic carbonic anhydrase (CA) to accelerate calcite step growth. In the presence of Zn2+, they promote the deprotonation of HCO3−, the desolvation of Ca2+, and the reorganization of interfacial hydration layers, thereby reducing the activation barrier for calcite growth.

Adaptive mesh refinement computation of acoustic radiation from an engine intake

open access: yes, 2008
A block-structured adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) method was applied to the computational problem of acoustic radiation from an aeroengine intake. The aim is to improve the computational and storage efficiency in aeroengine noise prediction through ...

An Ionic Gelation Powder for Ultrafast Hemostasis and Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafast ionic gelation‐activated hemostatic powder (AGCL) forms a hydrogel within ≈1 s upon contact with blood‐derived calcium ions. The AGCL powder enables rapid hemorrhage control, strong tissue adhesion, and enhanced healing. The powder's pre‐crosslinked polymer network ensures high blood uptake and stability, offering effective treatment for ...

Field transcriptome revealed critical developmental and physiological transitions involved in the expression of growth potential in japonica rice

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2011
Background Plant growth depends on synergistic interactions between internal and external signals, and yield potential of crops is a manifestation of how these complex factors interact, particularly at critical stages of development.
