The aerospace developments concept [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
The viability of using airships for the transport of natural gas, and the initial design of such a system, the airship and its associated subsystems together with a continuing economic analysis of the project were investigated.

Quantitative nucleotide level analysis of regulation of translation in response to depolarization of cultured neural cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Studies on regulation of gene expression have contributed substantially to understanding mechanisms for the long-term activity-dependent alterations in neural connectivity that are thought to mediate learning and memory.

All‐Aqueous Pullulan Fibers Enabling Visible‐to‐Near‐Infrared Waveguiding with Mechanical and Thermal Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Pullulan, a biomass‐derived polysaccharide, is transformed into transparent optical fibers using a solvent‐free borax hydrogel‐spinning method. The fibers outperform PMMA with ≈200 MPa tensile strength and 200 °C stability, while uniquely guiding visible‐to‐NIR light and enabling additive‐free humidity sensing.

CNC Planing Process for Turbine Twisted Blade Profile

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2019
Abstract In this paper, a multi-axis follow-up CNC planing process for twisted blade profile is proposed to reduce the machining cost and achieve high machining efficiency. Firstly, the planing process of the turbine twisted blade is analysed to determine the planing shaping movements; then the machine layout and CNC planing system ...

Power Management Techniques for Data Centers: A Survey

open access: yes, 2014
With growing use of internet and exponential growth in amount of data to be stored and processed (known as 'big data'), the size of data centers has greatly increased.

Counterion Dependent Side‐Chain Relaxation Stiffens a Chemically Doped Thienothiophene Copolymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidation of a thienothiophene copolymer, p(g3TT‐T2), via different doping strategies and dopant molecules resulted in materials with similar oxidation levels and a high electrical conductivity of ≈100 S cm−1. However, mechanical properties varied significantly, with sub‐glass transition temperatures and elastic moduli spanning from –44°C to –3°C and ...

Design procedures for compressor blades [PDF]

open access: yes
The conventional methods for the design of the blades in the case of axial turbomachines are considered, taking into account difficulties concerning the determination of optimal blade profiles.

High Entropy Wide‐Bandgap Borates with Broadband Luminescence and Large Nonlinear Optical properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐entropy rare‐earth borates exhibit excellent nonlinear optical and broadband luminescence properties arising from multi‐component doping, chemical disorder, increased configurational entropy, and increased lattice and electronic anharmonicity. This formulation enabled us to obtain a large, environmentally stable single crystal with 3X higher laser‐

The impact of local environmental differences on the phenotypic plasticity and genetic variation of Kazakhstani populations of Paeonia anomala

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution
Medicinal plants are highly vulnerable to overexploitation and environmental pressures, leading to a risk of extinction. Local ecological heterogeneity influences phenotypic variability and adaptive responses to stress.

Identification of developmental stage and anatomical fraction contributions to cell wall recalcitrance in switchgrass

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2017
Background Heterogeneity within herbaceous biomass can present important challenges for processing feedstocks to cellulosic biofuels. Alterations to cell wall composition and organization during plant growth represent major contributions to heterogeneity
