Blade Crack Detection using Blade Tip Timing

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2021
The harsh working environment of compressor threats the integrality of bladed disk. Crack is one of the most fatal faults of rotating blades. Detecting the crack of blades at early stage could ensure the safe operation of gas turbine and save economic costs.

Validating Blade Vibration Amplitudes from Blade Tip-Timing Data Analysis

open access: yes, 2004
Blade Tip-Timing (BTT) is a method for the measurement of blade vibration in rotating bladed assemblies such as those found in turbomachinery. BTT data needs to be analysed by specially formulated methods, to yield the vibration frequencies and amplitudes.

An OPR-Free Blade Tip Timing Method for Rotating Blade Condition Monitoring

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2021
Blade tip timing (BTT) is a noncontact blade vibration measurement method for rotating blade condition monitoring. However, it is difficult to install a once-per-revolution (OPR) probe due to the internal environment limitation of an engine. To solve this problem, an OPR-free BTT method is proposed in this article.

An OPR-free Blade Tip Timing Method Based on Blade Spacing Change

2020 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2020
Compressor blades often operate in high temper-ature, high pressure, and heavy load environments. They are in direct contact with the outside air, which causes their life to be severely limited. Blade vibration is an important factor that reflecting the state of the blade. Therefore, effective blade vibration monitoring methods are needed.

Constant speed tip deflection determination using the instantaneous phase of blade tip timing data [PDF]

open access: yesMechanical Systems and Signal Processing, 2021
Blade Tip Timing (BTT) is a non-intrusive measurement technique that can be used to estimate the vibration characteristics of rotor blades during turbomachine operation.

Blade tip timing and strain gauge correlation on compressor blades

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2008
Traditionally, rotor blade vibration response measurements have been made using strain gauges. Rolls-Royce has a long experience of using strain gauge measurements to certify blades. In recent years, however, much effort has been invested in developing blade tip timing (BTT).

Blade Fissure Determination by Means of Blade Tip-Timing System

Volume 7A: Structures and Dynamics, 2018
Since the turbomachinery came into existence there is control issue of rotor blade stress condition and blade health monitoring both aero engines in service and in process of impeller machines refinement. This issue relevance is to rotor blade failure lead to serious damage of compressor and aero engines in whole.

Synchronous Blade Vibration Analysis Using Blade Tip Timing Method

2021
In this study, the analysis method of synchronous vibration in turbine blades is developed. Blade tip timing (BTT) data measured by non-contact sensors is analyzed by the proposed method. The time of arrivals (TOA) of each blade when it passes the sensors are converted to the blade tip displacements in real time.

Pre-Emptive Rotor Blade Damage Identification by Blade Tip Timing Method

ASME 2013 Gas Turbine India Conference, 2013
The Blade Tip Timing (BTT) method uses the differential arrival timings of the blades at case-mounted sensors to effectively characterize the vibrations of all blades in a rotor. This paper studies the use of the BTT method for preemptive prediction of rotor blade damage; through a careful monitoring of blade natural frequencies in conjunction with the
