An integrated measurement method of blade tip clearance and blade vibration based on blade tip timing technology

Proceedings of Global Power & Propulsion Society
Structural parameters measurement of rotating blades is an important issue to ensure long-term safe operation of turbomachinery. Blade tip clearance (BTC) and blade tip vibration (BTV) are essential parameters of rotating blades. Typically, BTC and BTV are measured by two separate systems, which poses a challenge to the available space for the sensors.

Heat/Mass Transfer Characteristics on Turbine Shroud with Blade Tip Clearance

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2001
Abstract: The present study is conducted to investigate the local heat/mass transfer characteristics on the shroud with blade tip clearances. The relative motion between blade and shroud is neglected, and four‐bladed linear cascade is used in this study.

Blade Tip Clearance Measurement Systems for High Speed Turbomachinery Applications and the Potential for Blade Tip Timing Applications

Volume 8: Industrial and Cogeneration; Manufacturing Materials and Metallurgy; Marine; Microturbines, Turbochargers, and Small Turbomachines, 2020
Abstract As turbomachinery OEMs focus efforts to further increase reliability, power and efficiencies, the running clearance between blade tips and stator continue to be of the utmost importance. This paper investigates the capability of capacitive tip clearance systems to perform individual blade tip clearance ...

Electromechanical Measurement of Turbomachinery Blade Tip-to-Casing Running Clearance

Volume 5: Manufacturing Materials and Metallurgy; Ceramics; Structures and Dynamics; Controls, Diagnostics and Instrumentation; Education, 1992
It is difficult to make a reliable measurement of running clearance in the hostile environment over the blading of modern gas turbines. When the engine manufacturers require the measurement to be made during tests lasting many hours, or even days, measurement system ruggedness and reliability are of primary importance.

Design of sensor for measuring turbine engine blade tip clearance

2017 IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing, Communications and Computing (ICSPCC), 2017
The turbine engine blade tip clearance measurement is very important for improving engine performance. Engine rotor blade radial clearance control is the important link of improving the pneumatic performance and efficiency of the engine. Measurement precision of traditional tip clearance measurement sensor is limited.

Experimental Investigation on Tip Clearance Flow of Compressor Cascade With Blade Tip Winglet

Volume 8: Turbomachinery, Parts A, B, and C, 2012
This paper presents the results of experimental research of flow in an axial compressor cascade with different types of winglet on the blade tip, which consists of a suction-side winglet, pressure-side winglet and the combined winglet. The detailed tip leakage flow field with different winglet was described with total pressure loss coefficient ...

Tip-clearance-affected flow fields in a turbine blade row

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 1999
For effective validation of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes for design, numerical simulations must be compared and contrasted with experimental data sets which are well posed and measured. This paper presents, with the emphasis placed primarily upon the description and explanation of the experimental results, a test case designed for CFD ...

Capacitive blade tip clearance measurements for a micro gas turbine

IMTC/2002. Proceedings of the 19th IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (IEEE Cat. No.00CH37276), 2003
The efficiency of a gas turbine has an inverse relationship with the clearance between the rotor blades and the casing. Recent efforts in miniaturization of micro gas turbine engines have created new challenge in tip clearance measurement. This paper describes the development of a tip clearance measurement system, based on capacitive measurement for a ...

Investigation of blade tip clearance effects in EGT of aeroengine

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) of aero engine is one of pivotal technical indexes, as well as a parameter represents the quality of shop servicing. Factors act on it are complex and incalcuable, but the work presented here concerns the blade tip clearance effects on it.
