Noncontact vibration measurements on compressor rotor blades

Measurement Science and Technology, 2000
In turbine engine development, rotor blade vibration measurements are made to ensure the blades are sufficiently durable in later service. These measurements are conventionally taken using strain gauges or the frequency modulated grid. In recent years, a noncontact method of blade vibration measurement has become an increasingly accepted, low-cost ...

Vibrations of Turbine Blades measured by Means of a Laser

Nature, 1969
A RELIABLE method of measuring the vibrations of the blades of a turbine while in motion is needed1. A non-contact method is clearly preferable to one involving transducers (such as strain gauges coupled to slip-rings or miniature transmitters). We have been investigating the possibility of using a laser Doppler system for such a measurement.

Research on the nonintrusive measurement of the turbine blade vibration

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
It's one of the important ways to monitor the change of dynamic characteristic of turbine blades for ensuring safety operation of turbine unit. Traditional measurement systems for monitoring blade vibration generally use strain gauges attached to the surface of turbine blades, each strain gauge gives out an analogue signal related to blade deformation,

BLADE-TIP TIMING MEASUREMENT OF SYNCHRONOUS VIBRATIONS OF ROTATING BLADED ASSEMBLIES

Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, 2002
Blade-tip timing (BTT) is a promising method for the detection, measurement and analysis of blade vibrations in rotating bladed assemblies. However, the intricacies of the method when applied to real rotating structures undergoing synchronous (Engine Ordered) vibrations are not yet fully understood.

Interferometric Sensor System for Blade Vibration Measurements in Turbomachine Applications

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2013
In order to improve the safety, lifetime, and energy efficiency of turbomachines, the dynamic behavior of the rotor has to be analyzed. Blade vibrations have to be monitored during operation to optimize the rotor design and to validate numerical models.

Discussion of the Available Methods for Blade Vibration Measurement

Piping and Component Analysis and Diagnosis, 2002
Blade vibration has been recognized as one major and costly cause of failure in turbo-machinery. Its vibration measurement has attracted many investigators where until now there is no single reliable approach can be identified. Blade vibration measurement techniques can be classified into two broad categories, namely; (1) the direct approach that ...

Holographic Measurement of Compressor Blade, Turbine Blade and Airframe Panel Vibration Distribution

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1969
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Holographic vibration tests have been conducted to determine the vibration mode shapes of jet engine turbine and compressor blades and airframe panels. Tests were conducted using piezoelectric transducers, electromechanical and electromagnetic vibrators, and acoustic drivers of excitation.

Vibration measurement of compressor blades with fiber Bragg grating

2018 International Conference on Electronics Technology (ICET), 2018
We reported the vibration measurement of compressor blades by using fiber Bragg gratings. The low order vibration modes were focused on and the corresponding distributions of FBGs were designed. The arrangement position of the fiber Bragg grating sensor was determined by analyzing the strain distribution of the blade model in the low order mode. It was

Measurement of out-of-plane vibrations of a rotating bladed disk using blade tip timing measurement method

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
The Blade Tip-Timing (BTT) method is largely used to measure vibrations of rotating turbomachinery bladed disks under operating conditions. Other measurement methods, for example strain gauges, might be intrusive, or unsuitable because of inadequate optical access such as is required by Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer (SLDV) systems which may be ...
