Automatic segmentation of the left ventricle cavity and myocardium in MRI data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A novel approach for the automatic segmentation has been developed to extract the epi-cardium and endo-cardium boundaries of the left ventricle (lv) of the heart. The developed segmentation scheme takes multi-slice and multi-phase magnetic resonance (MR)

Harnessing deep learning to quantify microstructural complexity in confocal images of plant protein gels

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract Understanding plant protein gel microstructure is key to designing functional food systems. This study introduces a deep learning framework using a U‐Net model with a ResNet34 encoder to segment and quantify confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) images of plant protein gels.

Accuracy of Aneroid Versus Digital Sphygmomanometer in Community-Based Screening for Hypertension in Hubballi, Karnataka, India - A Cross-Sectional Study

open access: yesNational Journal of Community Medicine
Background: Hypertension is a significant global health issue, responsible for approximately 7.5 million deaths annually. Even a modest increase of 5 mm Hg in systolic blood pressure (BP) can elevate the risk of fatal stroke and infarction by about 25%.

Comparison of Gaia and asteroseismic distances

open access: yes, 2017
Asteroseismology provides fundamental properties (mass, radius and effective temperature) of solar-like oscillating stars using so-called scaling relations. These properties allow the computation of the asteroseismic distance of stars.

An investigation of the relationship between thermal imaging and digital thermometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: A number of research papers and theoretical clinical models summarising how temperature of the skin over the knee may be altered according to different pathological processes have been published. Thermal imaging (TI) is generally regarded as

Virtual Magnetic Resonance Elastography Using a Deep Generative Model for Liver Fibrosis Staging

open access: yesiRADIOLOGY, EarlyView.
The proposed Registration‐based Generative Adversarial Network‐Convolutional Block Attention Module (RegGAN‐CBAM) model efficiently and reliably generates virtual MR elastography using diffusion weighted imaging. Strong correlation between virtual and native MR elastography for liver stiffness and viscosity are observed.

Predictive Value of Modified Lung Ultrasound Score for Late Respiratory Diseases in Premature Infants: A Retrospective Cohort Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, EarlyView.
This study is to assess the predictive value of the modified lung ultrasound score (mLUS) for late respiratory diseases in premature infants born before 32 weeks of gestation. It is recommended that the use of mLUS scoring be promoted in clinical practice for the early screening of high‐risk preterm infants.

Validation of spatial microsimulation models: a proposal to adopt the Bland-Altman method [PDF]

open access: yes
Model validation is recognised as crucial to microsimulation modelling. However, modellers encounter difficulty in choosing the most meaningful methods to compare simulated and actual values. The aim of this paper is to introduce and demonstrate a method

Inter-observer variability for cardiac ultrasound measurements in cats repeated at different time points in early adult life [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A high degree of accuracy is required when using echocardiography to diagnose hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in cats, as variation in measurements of 0.5 mm may affect classification of individuals as ‘abnormal’.
