Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Impact of Blanket Configuration on the Design of a Fusion-Driven Transmutation Reactor

open access: yesInternational Journal of Renewable Energy Development, 2018
A configuration of a fusion-driven transmutation reactor with a low aspect ratio tokamak-type neutron source was determined in a self-consistent manner by using coupled analysis of tokamak systems and neutron transport.

Blanket technology [PDF]

open access: yes
It was concluded that systems requirements would force a reassessment of the conventional approach to interconnecting cells into blanket or array modules. Defense applications (hardening) were identified as the key requirement that would force a movement

Study of EU DEMO WCLL breeding blanket and primary heat transfer system integration

open access: yesFusion engineering and design, 2018
The Water-Cooled Lithium Lead breeding blanket is a candidate option for the realization of European DEMO power plant. One of the main functions of the breeding blanket is to recover the thermal power from the first wall and the breeding zone and to ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Effect of weighted blankets on sleep quality among adults with insomnia: a pilot randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Psychiatry
Background Weighted blanket is an emerging non-pharmacotherapy for sleep disorders, but its effect on sleep among relatively healthy adults with insomnia remains uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate whether weighted blankets could better improve sleep
