Promising Prodiginins Biological Activities

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 22, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Prodiginins are a large family of at least 34 pyrrolic compounds, including the well‐studied red pigment prodigiosin. Prodiginins are produced by several microorganisms displaying broad biological activities, including antimicrobial, antiviral, antiparasitic, antiproliferative, and immunosuppressive activities.

Co-infection by dimorphic fungi in tuberculosis patients in Kenya

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mycobacteriology, 2020
Background: Dimorphic fungi may cause infections and symptoms similar to tuberculosis (TB), in humans and animals. Such infections, individually or concurrently with TB, have been identified in cattle in Kenya, raising the possibility of infections in ...

Functional study of Phaeodactylum tricornutum Seipin highlights specificities of lipid droplets biogenesis in diatoms

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 247, Issue 5, Page 2245-2269, September 2025.
Summary Diatoms are a major phylum of microalgae, playing crucial ecological roles. They derive from secondary endosymbiosis, leading to a complex intracellular architecture. Their ability to store oil in lipid droplets (LDs) upon unfavourable conditions has raised interest for applications, in particular biofuels, yet Lipid Droplet (LD) biogenesis ...

Use of Urine Antigen Testing for Blastomyces in an Integrated Health System

open access: yesJournal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews, 2018
Purpose: Blastomycosis, an endemic fungal infection, mimics many other diseases. We explored the use of Blastomyces urine antigen (BuAg), reportedly the most sensitive noninvasive test, in clinical practice and compared it to other noninvasive tests ...

A novel approach for feline sporotrichosis pathogen detection based on loop‐mediated isothermal amplification

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 36, Issue 4, Page 474-484, August 2025.
Background – Sporotrichosis is a chronic, mycotic infection caused by fungi of the genus Sporothrix. Zoonotic sporotrichosis occurs mainly through S. brasiliensis transmission, resulting from the organism's traumatic introduction via scratches or bites, or contact with exudate from contaminated cats.

Fungal Spore Seasons Advanced Across the US Over Two Decades of Climate Change

open access: yesGeoHealth, Volume 9, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Phenological shifts due to climate change have been extensively studied in plants and animals. Yet, the responses of fungal spores—organisms important to ecosystems and major airborne allergens—remain understudied. This knowledge gap limits our understanding of their ecological and public health implications.
