Can Caring Create Prejudice? An Investigation of Positive and Negative Intergenerational Contact in Care Settings and the Generalisation of Blatant and Subtle Age Prejudice to Other Older People [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Community & Applied Social Psychology, 2016
AbstractCaring is a positive social act, but can it result in negative attitudes towards those cared for, and towards others from their wider social group? Based on intergroup contact theory, we tested whether care workers' (CWs) positive and negative contact with old‐age care home residents (CHRs) predicts prejudiced attitudes towards that group, and ...

Highly Anisotropic Quasi‐Direct Organic Metal Halide Hybrids: A Platform for Polarization‐Sensitive Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
One‐dimensional C4N2H14PbBr4 is shown to have a quasi‐direct electronic band structure and strongly anisotropic transport with polarized broadband emission. A GW/Bethe–Salpeter excited‐state force formalism, supported by polarized Raman and temperature‐dependent photoluminescence, identifies low–frequency Pb–Br phonons that drive ultrafast exciton self‐

FOS3D: A Fluorescence‐Enabled Toolkit for Characterizing a Three‐dimensional Osteosarcoma Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FOS3D describes fluorescent (F) osteosarcoma (OS) cells in a tri‐dimensional (3D) model. The study comprises three phases: development, where biofabrication parameters are tuned to achieve cytocompatibility and tumor‐specific mechanical properties in cell‐laden gelatin methacryloyl constructs; validation, where whole‐well fluorescence reading is ...

High‐Performance Transparent Solid Polymer Electrolyte Based on Copolymer of Deep Eutectic Electrolyte and Methyl Methacrylate for Electrochemical Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A copolymerization strategy using a polymerizable deep eutectic electrolyte with MMA forms efficient ion‐transport pathways while maintaining excellent transparency. The solid polymer electrolyte simultaneously achieves 17.8 MPa mechanical strength and 1.43 mS cm−1 ionic conductivity, enhancing long‐term cycling stability in Li|LFP batteries and ...
