TcALS knockdown accelerates metamorphosis via insulin signaling in Tribolium castaneum

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
RNAi silencing of TcALS accelerates larva‐to‐pupa metamorphosis in Tribolium castaneum. Abstract Insect metamorphosis is an evolutionary adaptation precisely regulated by nutritional and hormonal cues. The red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum, a major stored‐product pest, serves as an excellent model for studying this process.

Spiralitermes jurupari, a New Genus and Species of Soldierless Termites (Blattodea: Termitidae) From the Amazon Rainforest

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 65, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The soldierless termites of Apicotermitinae exhibit highly varied digestive tract morphology, with the first proctodeal segment being one of the most commonly used features in genus diagnosis. In this study, we describe Spiralitermes jurupari Almeida‐Azevedo & Azevedo gen. et sp. nov., from the Amazon Rainforest.

How Do Group Size and Social Context Affect Per‐Capita Behavioral Responses in a Nasute Termite?

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 7, Page 639-645, July 2026.
Group living is often assumed to increase individual behavioral activity in eusocial insects through social facilitation. Using controlled bioassays with the termite Nasutitermes corniger, we show that increasing group size instead reduces per‐capita behavioral frequency, consistent with greater behavioral specialization. While antennation and grooming

Insects and Survival: A Review of Primary and Secondary Defense Strategies

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 7, Page 601-624, July 2026.
Based on a review of three decades of literature, insect defense mechanisms are classified into primary (I) and secondary (II) mechanisms of behavioral, morphological, and chemical nature. These mechanisms have been recorded in 22 (I) and 20 (II) orders, respectively.

Multispecies Niche Overlap: Moving Beyond Pairwise Metrics to Understand Community‐Wide Similarities in Resource Use

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Measures of niche overlap are important tools in various ecological and evolutionary studies. Here we create and apply a multispecies overlap metric to both simulated and empirical communities, illustrating how this methodology may capture interactions and structure of niche space in ways that traditional, pairwise metrics overlook.
