Silencing of two insulin receptor genes disrupts nymph-adult transition of alate brown citrus aphid [PDF]
Insulin receptors play key roles in growth, development, and polymorphism in insects. Here, we report two insulin receptor genes (AcInR1 and AcInR2) from the brown citrus aphid, Aphis (Toxoptera) citricidus.

Effect of shelter on reproduction, growth and longevity of the German cockroach, Blattella germanica (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae) [PDF]
German cockroaches spend most of the day in aggregations within shelters, which they leave in nocturnal foraging trips; cockroaches are rarely seen outside shelters during daylight hours.

Expressed sequence tags analysis of Blattella germanica [PDF]
Four hundred and sixty five randomly selected clones from a cDNA library of Blattella germanica were partially sequenced and searched using BLAST as a means of analyzing the transcribed sequences of its genome. A total of 363 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) were generated from 465 clones after editing and trimming the vector and ambiguous sequences ...

Effects of myoinhibitory peptides on food intake in the German cockroach [PDF]
Insect myoinhibitory peptides were discovered through their inhibitory activity on visceral muscle contraction. The present study tests the antimyotropic gut properties of three galanin-related myoinhibitory peptides (Mas-MIP II: GWQDLNSAW-NH2; Grb-AST ...

Steroid receptor coactivator TAIMAN is a new modulator of insect circadian clock.
TAIMAN (TAI), the only insect ortholog of mammalian Steroid Receptor Coactivators (SRCs), is a critical modulator of ecdysone and juvenile hormone (JH) signaling pathways, which govern insect development and reproduction.

Cricket antennae shorten when bending (Acheta domesticus L.). [PDF]
Insect antennae are important mechanosensory and chemosensory organs. Insect appendages, such as antennae, are encased in a cuticular exoskeleton and are thought to bend only between segments or subsegments where the cuticle is thinner, more flexible, or

Reproduction and Development of Blattella asahinai (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae) [PDF]
The development of the Asian cockroach, Blattella asahinai Mizukubo, was studied under laboratory conditions. Immature development and adult longevity were 67.8 and 103.5 d for females and 65.7 and 48.5 d for males. Females produced an average of 3.7 oothecae, 64.6% of which were viable.
