A Comparison of Hemocytes in Phasmatodea and Blattodea Species
Entomological News, 2018The aim of this study was to characterize and quantify hemocyte types in the Indian stick insect Carausius morosus (Phasmatidae) and in the tropical cockroaches Blaberus craniifer and Archimandrita tessellata (Blaberidae) cultivated in an insectary. Plasmatocytes, prohemocytes, granulocytes, coagulocytes and spherulocytes were found in the cockroaches.

Isoptera (termites) and Blattaria (cockroaches) collectively form Order Blattodea, which together with Mantids (Order Mantodea) constitute the Superorder Dictyoptera. Blattodea contains three superfamilies: Corydioidea, Blaberoidea and Blattoidea, with the termites now regarded by some as forming an epifamily (termitoidae) wihin Blattoidea, rather than

Defensive glands in Stylotermitidae (Blattodea, Isoptera)
Arthropod Structure & DevelopmentThe large abundance of termites is partially achieved by their defensive abilities. Stylotermitidae represented by a single extant genus, Stylotermes, is a member of a termite group Neoisoptera that encompasses 83% of termite species and 94% of termite genera and is characterized by the presence of the frontal gland. Within Neoisoptera, Stylotermitidae

The mouthparts of cockroaches (Blattodea)
Entomological Review, 2007The structure of the mouthparts was studied in 24 species representing 10 families and 4 suborders of cockroaches. The details of the labrum, mandibles, maxillae, labium, and hypopharynx, characteristic of different suborders of Blattodea and some families of Blaberoidea, were revealed.

The Evolution of Neuropeptides in Blattodea
