Polarization in Blazars [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of Japan, 2002
Based on the beaming model, a relation between the observed polarization and the Doppler factor was obtained by Fan et al. (1997, AAA068.159.190), who showed that the polarization is associated with the Doppler factor (boosting factor) in BL Lacertae objects (BLs).

Suborbital Fermi/LAT Analysis of the Brightest Gamma-Ray Flare of Blazar 3C 454.3

open access: yesGalaxies, 2017
Recent detection of suborbital gamma-ray variability of Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar (FSRQ) 3C 279 by Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) is in severe conflict with established models of blazar emission.

The “Blazar Sequence” in the TeV Band

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The “blazar sequence” has been proposed for more than 20 yr, yet its nature is still unclear. In this work, for the first time we expand this topic to the TeV band by using a sample of 58 TeV blazars, including 48 blazars in the quiescent state and 21 ...

Optical Outburst of the Blazar S4 0954+658 in Early 2015

open access: yesGalaxies, 2016
We analyze the behavior of the BL Lac object S4 0954+658 during an unprecedented bright optical flare in early 2015. The optical flare was accompanied by a powerful γ -ray flare and the detection of very-high-energy γ -ray emission.

Evidence for a Significant Blazar Contamination in CMB Anisotropy Maps

open access: yes, 2003
The analysis of the recent WMAP source catalog shows that the vast majority of bright foreground extragalactic sources detected in CMB maps are Blazars.

Theoretical Study of the Effects of Magnetic Field Geometry on the High-Energy Emission of Blazars

open access: yesGalaxies, 2016
The knowledge of the structure of the magnetic field inside a blazar jet, as deduced from polarization observations at radio to optical wavelengths, is closely related to the formation and propagation of relativistic jets that result from accretion onto ...

Relativistic flows in blazars [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2001
The radiation we observe from blazars is most likely the product of the transformation of bulk kinetic energy into random energy. This process must have a relatively small efficiency (e.g. 10%) if jets are to power the extended radio-structures. Recent results suggest that the average power reaching the extended radio regions and lobes is of the same ...

Time-Evolving SED of MKN421: A Multi-Band View and Polarimetric Signatures

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2018
The most detailed temporal studies of the emission from blazars are usually done by trying to obtain a dense, simultaneous coverage of the source over a large multi-wavelength observational campaign.

Infrared Colors of the gamma-ray detected blazars

open access: yes, 2012
Blazars constitute the most enigmatic class of extragalactic gamma-ray sources, and their observational features have been ascribed to a relativistic jet closely aligned to the line of sight.
