This chapter considers the reputation of the film Scrooge, and that of its source material, A Christmas Carol, as being fundamentally optimistic with the actuality of the narrative, which the author contends is bleak and nightmarish, especially so as depicted in the 1951 film. He emphasises that Scrooge is being haunted.
