One tube for all: 1‐year outcomes after transition to Paul glaucoma implant at a tertiary centre

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To evaluate the intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering effect and success rate of Paul glaucoma implant (PGI) in refractory glaucoma after changing practice pattern from Ahmed and Baerveldt tubes to PGI. Methods A prospective observational study of the first 50 consecutive PGI surgeries at a single Danish tertiary centre from January 2022

First insight into gemstones on historical ecclesiastical artefacts in Sicily (17th‐19th centuries): A non‐invasive survey

Abstract A wide production of ecclesiastical artefacts is traceable in Sicily between the 17th and 19th centuries, admirable in many diocesan museums. Nevertheless, these artefacts were never studied from an archaeometric point of view: Beyond their historical value, it is time to understand whether the information concerning the decorating gemstones ...

Interplay between cortical adhesion and membrane bending regulates microparticle formation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The formation of microparticles requires the bending of the plasma membrane away from the cytosol. The capcity of the cell membrane to form a microparticle, and the rate of membrane deformation, are controlled by multiple factors, including loss of lipid asymmetry (primarily the exposure of phosphatidylserine on the outer leaflet), detachment of the ...

Cryptococcal meningitis due to Cryptococcus neoformans VNI in a koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) with progressive neurological disease

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Nearly all cases of cryptococcosis in koalas are caused by Cryptococcus gattii species complex. A rare case of meningitis due to Cryptococcus neoformans VNI/AFLP1 (abbreviated VNI) is described in a koala with nasal colonisation by both species complexes.
