This study demonstrates a label‐free optical method to monitor cells using a terahertz metasurface‐based biosensing platform. The obtained terahertz signal change for the cell‐contained nanoslots before and after external stimulus is analyzed in terms of transmittance and frequency shift, dynamically representing the cell apoptosis process.

Bleb resuscitation of failing, leaking and dysfunctional blebs: A review
The success of trabeculectomy surgery depends on the longevity of the filtering bleb. Bleb failure can be categorized into two types: the scarred bleb with high intraocular pressure or the over-filtering and leaking bleb with low intraocular pressure ...

Getting in shape and swimming: the role of cortical forces and membrane heterogeneity in eukaryotic cells [PDF]
Recent research has shown that motile cells can adapt their mode of propulsion to the mechanical properties of the environment in which they find themselves--crawling in some environments while swimming in others. The latter can involve movement by blebbing or other cyclic shape changes, and both highlysimplified and more realistic models of these ...

3D quantitative imaging of unprocessed live tissue reveals epithelial defense against bacterial adhesion and subsequent traversal requires MyD88. [PDF]
While a plethora of in vivo models exist for studying infectious disease and its resolution, few enable factors involved in the maintenance of health to be studied in situ.

Opportunities in Therapeutic mRNA Stabilization: Sequence, Structure, Adjuvants and Vectors
Current mRNA lipid nanoparticles rely on cold storage, which increases the cost and reduces access to the vaccines. As mRNA expands to other clinical opportunities, better methods to stabilize the medicines during shipping, storage, and delivery are needed.

Aminoglycoside-Induced Phosphatidylserine Externalization in Sensory Hair Cells Is Regionally Restricted, Rapid, and Reversible [PDF]
The aminophospholipid phosphatidylserine (PS) is normally restricted to the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane. During certain cellular processes, including apoptosis, PS translocates to the outer leaflet and can be labeled with externally applied ...

AAV2.7m8 serotype combined with the gfaABC1D promoter targets infection of supporting cells (SCs). AAV2.7m8‐gfaABC1D‐Gjb2 administration to mice results in excessive immune responses. The combination of AAV2.7m8‐gfaABC1D‐Gjb2 with dexamethasone (DEX) shows a synergistic effect and enhances the gene therapy effect in a conditional Cx26 null mice model ...
