Late Bleb Leaks

2013
Glaucoma filtering surgery is an effective method to lower intraocular pressure (IOP).However, as is the case with any interventional procedure, filtering surgery poses risks to the eye. At a reported incidence of 4.2%–10%, late leakage of filtering blebs is one of the most common and challenging complications encountered by glaucoma surgeons Bleb ...

The surgical management of leaking filtering blebs

Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 1999
Leaking blebs may be encountered in the early postoperative period, or months to years after filtering surgery. Early postoperative bleb leaks are most often related to surgical trauma to the conjunctiva and can be avoided by careful surgical technique. Spontaneous late bleb leaks occur more frequently in glaucoma filtering surgery following adjunctive

Simmons' Tamponade Shell for Leaking Filtration Blebs

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1985
We used the Simmons' tamponade shell to successfully treat four of five patients who had leaking filtration blebs after glaucoma surgery. Bleb leaks in both the immediate postoperative period as well as many years following surgery were treated. In each case, previous pressure patching had been unsuccessful.

Bleb reconstruction using donor scleral patch graft for late bleb leak and hypotony

European Journal of Ophthalmology, 2020
Purpose Bleb dysfunction may occur as a late complication following glaucoma filtration surgery. Over-filtering, thinning and cystic blebs can lead to hypotony, leak and corneal dellen. We report our surgical management and outcomes of this specific entity using donor scleral patch grafts.

Outcomes of Surgical Bleb Revision for Late-onset Bleb Leaks After Trabeculectomy

Journal of Glaucoma, 2013
To describe the outcome of surgical bleb revision for late-onset bleb leaks after trabeculectomy.Appropriate cases were identified. Qualified and complete success required intraocular pressure of 21 mm Hg or less with and without glaucoma medication use, respectively.

Severe Cough: A Cause of Late Bleb Leak

Journal of Glaucoma, 2003
To highlight coughing as a potential cause for late postoperative trabeculectomy bleb leaks.A retrospective study of 2 patients in whom late bleb leaks developed after a bout of severe coughing. Perioperative 5-fluorouracil was used at the time of the initial filtration procedure for one of the patients, while the second patient had had an ordinary ...

Complications: Bleb Leaks

2009
Controversy exists regarding the effect of early postoperative bleb leaks on trabeculectomy outcomes. The Flourouracil Filtering Surgery Study found that early wound leaks were strongly associated with failure [29]. However, other authors have not found this association, though the number of leaks in their studies was small [1, 9, 18]. In my experience,

A Surgical Method to Repair Leaking Filtering Blebs

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1992
ABSTRACT Surgical revision of a chronically-thinned filtering bleb with a leak at the limbus is described. After surgical excision of the scarred cystic conjunctiva and Tenon's fascia surrounding the leaking bleb, relatively uninvolved conjunctiva and Tenon's fascia are mobilized with the help of a large relaxing incision in the superior ...

Management of leaking filtration blebs.

Annals of ophthalmology, 1988
This study describes 11 patients, in whom filtering surgery was performed, who developed a leaking filtration bleb postoperatively. Average follow-up time was 3 1/2 years. In three patients, suturing of the conjunctiva was performed. In two, anterior chamber reformation and choroidal tap were required, and, in both cases, the leak sealed spontaneously ...

Repair of an Inadvertent Buttonhole or Leaking Filtering Bleb

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1979
Buttonholing of conjunctival flaps at the time of filtering glaucoma surgery or a leak in the flap postoperatively can cause serious problems and may be most difficult to repair. A new delicate atraumatic needle has been used successfully in five cases to close conjunctiva to conjunctiva or conjunctiva to cornea defects.
