Biogeochemical niche conservatism relates to plant species diversification and life form evolution in a subtropical montane evergreen broad‐leaved forest

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Our results show that biogeochemical niche conservatism relates to plant species diversification and life form evolution in subtropical forest plants. Furthermore, the strengths of biogeochemical niche conservatism varying among elements and between life forms might be mostly determined by the tempo and mode of OU processes.

Scrub encroachment promotes biodiversity in temperate European wetlands under eutrophic conditions

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 11, November 2022., 2022
We examine the effects of encroachment on biodiversity along gradients of soil moisture and soil fertility in open and wooded wetlands in Denmark. Our results support existing knowledge of the importance of nutrient poor, wet mires and meadows for rare species but on former arable lands where restoration of infertile habitats is less feasible we ...

Phenolic metabolism in Sarcandra glabra is mediated by distinct BAHD hydroxycinnamoyltransferases. [PDF]

open access: yesPlant J
Significance Statement Four genes and enzymes involved in the formation of hydroxycinnamoyl esters with shikimic, quinic, hydroxyphenyllactic, and benzoic acids as well as amides with hydroxyanthranilic and d‐amino acids were identified in Sarcandra glabra (Chloranthaceae), placed in a sister clade of the magnoliids.
