Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...

The characteristics and corrections of ventral support interferences in the transonic-speed wind tunnel for the blended-wing-body aircraft

open access: yesAdvances in Aerodynamics
For the problem of ventral support interference in a transonic-speed wind tunnel with the blended-wing-body aircraft NPU-BWB-300 installed, the numerical simulation method based on Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations is used to study the ...

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Assessing the climate impact of the AHEAD multi-fuel blended wing body

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 2017
Air traffic is important to our society and guarantees mobility especially for long distances. Air traffic is also contributing to climate warming via emissions of CO2 and various non-CO2 effects, such as contrail-cirrus or increase in ozone ...

A Multimodal Magnetically Driven Soft Robot With Integrated Actuation‐Sensing Based on Photothermal Reprogramming Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work reports a thermally safe, photothermally reprogrammable magnetic soft robot with its reprogramming temperature tuned to ∼39.5°C for biocompatibility. It achieves multimodal locomotion (max speed of 1.8 BL/s) and integrates liquid‐metal capacitive sensing to monitor self‐motion and detect environmental changes in simulated gastric environments,

Surrogate Model Development for Optimized Blended-Wing-Body Aerodynamics

open access: yesJournal of Aircraft, 2023
In the conceptual design phase of conventional-configuration aircraft, calibrated low-fidelity methods provide sufficiently accurate estimates of aerodynamic coefficients. It has been observed, however, that for blended-wing–body aircraft, important flow effects are not captured adequately with low-fidelity aerodynamic tools.

Revisiting paravertebral muscles in European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and European brown hares (Lepus europaeus) (Leporidae; Lagomorpha)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Domesticated European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) have long been chosen as laboratory model organisms. Despite this, there has been no definitive study of the vertebral musculature of wild rabbits. Relevant descriptions of well‐studied veterinary model mammals (such as dogs) are generally applicable, but not appropriate for a species ...
