Conceptual Design of a 200 Passenger Blended Wing Body Aircraft
Volume 1: Advances in Aerospace Technology, 2014The Blended Wing Body (BWB) aircraft is based on the flying wing concept. For this aircraft the literature has reported performance improvements compared to conventional aircraft. However, most BWB studies have focused on large aircraft and it is not sure whether the gains are the same for smaller aircraft. The main objective of this work is to perform

Lift and Drag Characteristics of a Blended-Wing Body Aircraft
Journal of Aircraft, 2007The aerodynamic characteristics of a blended-wing body aircraft were assessed in the Air Force Institute of Technology low-speed wind tunnel. The scaled-down model (Re ∼ 10 5 and M = 0.10 to 0.20) of a strike tanker consisted of a shaped fuselage and slender, sweptback wings.

Spanwise Lift Distribution for Blended Wing Body Aircraft.
Journal of Aircraft, 2005A study is presented of the effects of spanwise lift distribution on aerodynamic efficiency for a blended wing body (BWB) configuration of a given baseline planform. The baseline geometry is initially assessed by a high-fidelity aerodynamic model based on a multiblock structured grid Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) solution.

Aerodynamic Studies for Blended Wing Body Aircraft
9th AIAA/ISSMO Symposium on Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization, 2002This paper presents aerodynamic studies of a blended wing body (BWB) configuration within an European project, MOB. Firstly, the effects of spanwise distribution on the BWB aircraft aerodynamic efficiency were studied through an inverse design approach, combining both a low fidelity panel method and a high fidelity RANS method.

The Effect of Gust on Blended-Wing-Body Civil Aircraft
Advanced Materials Research, 2014In this paper, aerodynamic properties of Blended Wing Body (BWB) civil aircraft are studied by two models: one calls complete model that is computed by numerical simulation coupling equations of motion with the Navier-Stokes equations, and the other doesn’t consider the equations of motion (without dynamic response).

Conceptual design of a Blended Wing Body aircraft
2022[EN] This Final Degree Project proposal consists in the conceptual design of a Blended Wing Body (BWB) aircraft. This aircraft configuration aims to increase aerodynamic performance by removing the tail and incorporating an airfoil-shaped fuselage, which is then smoothly merged with some high aspect ratio outer wings similar to those present in ...

A Conceptual Design and Optimization Method for Blended-Wing-Body Aircraft
53rd AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference
20th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
14th AIAA, 2012This paper details a new software tool to aid in the conceptual design of blended-wingbody aircraft. The tool consists of four main modules. In the preliminary sizing model a class I estimate of the maximum take-off weight, wing loading, and thrust-to-weight ratio is calculated.

Stability Features of the Saucer-Shaped Blend-Wing-Body Aircraft
Advanced Materials Research, 2013The saucer-shaped aircraft is a novel aircraft adopting blend-wing-body configuration. The linear perturbation theory based on the classic flight dynamics was used to analyze the longitudinal, lateral and directional flight qualities of the saucer-shaped aircraft under low speed conditions. The flight qualities were given.

Aerodynamic analysis of a blended-wing-body aircraft configuration
2010In recent years unconventional aircraft configurations, such as Blended-Wing-Body (BWB) aircraft, are being investigated and researched with the aim to develop more efficient aircraft configurations, in particular for very large transport aircraft that are more efficient and environmentally-friendly.
