Conceptual Design and Evaluation of Blended-Wing Body Aircraft

open access: yes2018 AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 2018
Blended wing body (BWB) aircraft represent a paradigm shift in jet transport aircraft design that promise benefits over conventional aircraft. A method is presented to enable the conceptual design of BWB aircraft, enabling comparison studies with tube-and-wing aircraft (TAW) based on the same top-level requirements and analysis fidelity.

An alternative approach to induced drag reduction

open access: yesAviation, 2021
Induced drag constitutes approximately 40% of the total drag of subsonic civil transport aircraft at cruise conditions. Various types of winglets and several non-planar concepts, such as the C-wing, the joined wings, and the box plane, have been proposed

Layout Optimization for Blended Wing Body Aircraft Structure [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sciences, 2019
Structural layout design of blended wing body (BWB) aircraft in the preliminary design phase is a challenging optimization problem due to large numbers of design variables and various constraints. A two-loop optimization strategy is proposed to solve the BWB aircraft structural layout design problem considering constraints of the displacement, stress ...

Absolute stability for the lateral-directional BWB model with rate limited actuator [PDF]

open access: yesINCAS Bulletin, 2012
In this paper the authors present a study regarding the interaction between the human pilot and the aircraft which may result in a dangerous phenomenon called Pilot Induced Oscillations (PIO), in the context of the lateral directional motion.
