Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Development of an Optimization-Based Atomistic-to-Continuum Coupling Method

open access: yes, 2013
Atomistic-to-Continuum (AtC) coupling methods are a novel means of computing the properties of a discrete crystal structure, such as those containing defects, that combine the accuracy of an atomistic (fully discrete) model with the efficiency of a ...

Self‐Reinforcing Degradation of Solution‐Processed Small‐Molecule OLEDs: Excited‐States and Molecular Interactions as Key Triggers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐reinforcing degradation in solution‐processed small‐molecule organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) arises from charge accumulation and exciton‐polaron interactions, leading to molecular aggregation and efficiency loss. This study uncovers the fundamental mechanisms behind this degradation and introduces strategic material engineering approaches ...

FeDSNP‐Pa Nanoassemblies: A Triple‐Action Therapeutic Strategy Targeting Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Pyroptosis for Retinal Ganglion Cell Protection in Glaucoma

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
FeDSNP‐Pa, a metallized nanoparticle loaded with sodium pyruvate (Pa), exerts triple therapeutic effects by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), suppressing inflammatory responses, and inhibiting pyroptosis signaling pathways. This multifunctional neuroprotective strategy protecting retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) from elevated intraocular pressure ...

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

3D Multicellular Scaffold Based Model for Advancing Bone Disorder Research

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable 3D multicellular in vitro bone model engineered by integrating osteoblasts, osteoclasts, and endothelial cells on biodegradable scaffolds. The system recapitulates key features of human bone remodeling and disease pathology. As a proof of concept, the model mimics osteogenesis imperfecta, demonstrating its potential as a physiologically ...
