Novel Use of Environmental DNA Metabarcoding to Assess the Impacts of a Large‐Scale Seismic Survey on Tropical Fish Communities

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 5, September–October 2025.
eDNA was used to assess whether there had been any impacts to an offshore demersal fish community. No major changes due to the seismic experiment were observed. When used in concert with baited remote underwater camera stations (BRUVS), a more comprehensive assessment of the fish community was obtained.

Distribution and abundance of ichthyoplankton in Florida Bay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Ichthyoplankton was sampled at 14 stations with 60 cm bongo nets fitted with 0.333 mm mesh in basins throughout Florida Bay in 1994-1995. In addition, I compared collections made using an epibenthic sled to those made with standard ichthyoplankton bongo

The Evolution of Fangs, Venom, and Mimicry Systems in Blenny Fishes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Venom systems have evolved on multiple occasions across the animal kingdom, and they can act as key adaptations to protect animals from predators. Consequently, venomous animals serve as models for a rich source of mimicry types, as non-venomous ...

Embryonic development of the blenny Parablennius marmoreus (Osteichthyes: Blenniidae)

open access: yesJournal of Aquaculture & Marine Biology, 2023
The fish Parablennius marmoreus (Blenniidae) exhibits demersal spawning characterized by eggs adhering to solid surfaces and male parental care. This research describes the embryonic development under laboratory conditions of 12 spawns obtained in captivity at temperatures ranging from 27 ºC to 30 ºC.

Recurrence of the Spatial Structure of Summer Larval Fish Assemblages Linked to Hydrodynamics in the NW Mediterranean

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, Volume 34, Issue 5, Page 99-120, September 2025.
ABSTRACT In this study, we aim to investigate the contribution of various sources of variability, environmental, spatial and interannual on the larval fish assemblages (LFA) in summer off the Catalan coast, an area with a wide array of environmental conditions.

Consumption to biomass (Q/B) ratio and estimates of Q/B-predictor parameters for Caribbean fishes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Estimates of the Q/B ratio and parameters of equations to 'predict' Q/B values for 116 fish stocks in the Gulf of Salamanca, Colombia are presented. A compilation of these estimates available for Caribbean Sea fishes (264 stocks) is also provided for ...

Descripción de los complejos estructurales óseos en Helcogrammoides chilensis (Blennioidei: Tripterygiidae) de la zona central de Chile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Indexación: ScieloAbstract: This paper describes the osteological features in the context of the structural complexes they build as a way of avoiding their separation from the morphofunctional wholes to which they belong.

Predatory foraging tactics correspond with aggressive mimetic fidelity in carnivorous blenniid fishes on coral reefs

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, Volume 327, Issue 1, Page 19-27, September 2025.
The false cleanerfish (at the front), Aspidontus taeniatus (Blenniidae), mimics the bluestreak cleaner wrasse (Labroides dimidiatus, Labridae), a well‐known cleaner fish on coral reefs. What makes A. taeniatus mimic so precisely and perfectly? In this study, to explore the advantages of such mimicry, we used three‐dimensional (3D) recordings to examine

Reef Fish Assemblage Through Space and Time in a Thermal Transition Zone in the Southwestern Atlantic

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 31, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Assessing the structure of reef fish assemblages and their spatiotemporal changes (β‐diversity) in seven reef locations across a thermal transition zone in the southwestern Atlantic. Location Eastern Brazilian coast, from the northern Abrolhos Bank (17° S; 26.37°C) to the southern Espírito Santo state (20° S; 21.13°C). Methods We used four‐

Fish larval daily assemblage variations in coastal waters of the Chahbahar Bay

open access: yes‬‭Majallah-i ̒Ilmī-i Shīlāt-i Īrān, 2015
The survey of fish larvae assemblage variation was done in 2013 seasonally at the coastal areas of Southeastern side of Chabahar Bay. Sampling was done in 3 stations at day and night periods by a Bongo-Net with 300μ of mesh size.
