Globally widespread weeds show preadaptation to non‐analogue climates: a common garden approach

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Climatic niche shifts have been documented for plant species introduced into new regions, however the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Niche shifts into novel climates are particularly difficult to predict as previous occurrence data cannot reveal whether these novel climates are within species' fundamental niche limits.

Particle-Scale Insights into Extraction Zone Development During Block Caving: Experimental Validation and PFC3D Simulation of Gradation-Dependent Flow Characteristics

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To investigate the evolution trend of the extraction zone above the drawbell in block caving, an experimental apparatus incorporating the drawbell structure was designed.

A dramaturgy of uncertainty: Transdisciplinary manoeuvres across forestry and theatre

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract The uncertainties of climate change mean that forestry adaptation strategies are often complex and contested. Research has suggested that there is an interest in the forestry sector for facilitated dialogue about uncertainty (de Pellegrin Llorente et al., 2023).

FLSea: Underwater Visual–Inertial and Stereovision Forward‐Looking Data Sets

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Visibility underwater is challenging and degrades as the distance between the subject and the camera increases. That is why forward‐looking underwater computer vision tasks are difficult. We have collected underwater forward‐looking stereovision and visual–inertial image sets using two underwater imaging platforms, a stereo camera rig, and an ...

Multi-Level Spatial Design Decision-Making Model for Block Caving Systems in Super-Large Open-Pit Mines

open access: yesApplied Sciences
As global super-large open-pit mines expand in scale and extraction depth, conventional single-stage planning cannot meet the combined demands of productivity and resource recovery, making the shift to underground block caving inevitable.

Prediction of the height of caving zone above the undercut in block caving mining method

open access: yesRock Mechanics Letters
The block caving is one of the most commonly used methods in underground mining of massive, low/high grades, and deep deposits. As a result of undercutting, caving occurs and propagates toward the upper part of the ore block. It is essential to predict the height of caved ore and its volume based on shape of the caved zone to make an economic decision.

Reliability of Manual Counting for Thermal Census of Bats Within Human‐Made Structures

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Bats have a critical role in ecosystems worldwide, but monitoring their populations remains challenging, particularly in complex roosts within human‐made structures. We examined the reliability of manual bat counts from thermal infrared video, a method widely used to estimate populations and evaluate computer vision censusing approaches.

Colloidal Behavior of Carbonate Particles Microbially Precipitated in Microfluidic Droplets

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
In Microbially Induced Calcium Carbonate Precipitation (MICP), ureolytic bacteria trigger calcium carbonate precipitation via pH‐increasing urea hydrolysis. This enzymatically driven reaction induces the colloidal assembly of bacteria and carbonate particles into fractal networks.

“Just My Presence, Just Using These Words Is Not Enough”: Shifting from Identity‐Based Inclusion to Structural Transformation in Language Education

open access: yesTESOL Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract This study focuses on 17 in‐service language teachers who graduated from a social justice‐oriented MA program in Teaching Languages to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Teaching Foreign Languages (TFL) at a US higher education institution. Drawing on multiple data sources that connect participants' pre‐service and in‐service experiences,

Impact of Environmental Microparticles on Insect Olfaction

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Terrestrial insects underpin key ecosystem services, including pollination, herbivory regulation, decomposition, nutrient cycling, and disease control. These functions depend on chemical communication that guides insects to food, mates, hosts, shelters, and oviposition sites while helping them avoid threats.
