Cave-to-Mill: a Mine-to-Mill approach for block cave mines
Mining Technology, 2015AbstractA refinement of the traditional Mine-to-Mill integration opportunity for copper block cave mines is introduced here as a Cave-to-Mill production management concept. This is essentially the integration of underground mine production scheduling and monitoring with surface mineral processing management based upon fragment size and geometallurgical

A framework for modelling fragmentation in block caving
2023The block cave mining method takes advantage of the effects of gravity by undercutting the rock mass until it caves through the height of the undercut. The resulting relatively minor movement of the rock mass is usually sufficient to break it into fragments. The use of gravity in such a manner results in caving being a low cost mining method.

Development of the kinematic model to rapidly simulate the flow of caved rock for block caving
Proceedings of the Second International Symposium on Block and Sublevel Caving, 2010In recent years, new efforts have been made into the investigation of gravity flow of caved rock for block caving methods using different research approaches. These include physical modelling, numerical modelling and full scale tests. One of the practical aims of studying the flow characteristics of the caved rock is to evaluate ore recovery, dilution ...

Modelling of preconditioning by blasting in block and panel caving
Mining Technology: Transactions of the Institutions of Mining and Metallurgy: Section A, 2017This paper discusses the results of design and modelling work conducted to estimate the extent of preconditioning from the effect of multiple explosive charges detonated simultaneously within typical block and panel caving layouts. The analysis was conducted to support existing and future implementation strategies of both conventional and higher ...

Study of the mechanisms of gravity flow for block caving [PDF]
In block caves, the flow characteristic of the caved rock strongly influences ore recovery and dilution content. Consequently, caved rock flow characteristics plays a fundamental role in determining, at an engineering level, optimal production level layout and draw control practices. Since the first applications of block caving, a significant amount of
