The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Construction of Block Design-Based Piggybacking Codes

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao
Based on maximum distance separable (MDS) codes, existing Piggybacking codes can reduce the repair bandwidth overhead of systematic nodes effectively, but there are still challenges such as larger repair degree, higher repair bandwidth of parity nodes ...

A construction for convolutional codes using block codes

open access: yesInformation and Control, 1968
Several algorithms for constructing convolutional codes using block codes are given. The minimum distance of the resulting convolutional code is related to the distance properties of the block code used in the construction. Long low-rate convolutional codes can be found using this procedure. It is shown that any linear binary uniform convolutional code

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Interleaver Design for Parallel Concatenated Block Codes With Arbitrary Lengths

open access: yesIEEE Access
Parallel Concatenated Block (PCB) codes are conventionally constituted by two identical linear systematic block codes, as component codes, linked by an interleaver. In general, the PCB code’s interleaver length (or message length) is the square of

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Low‐density algebra‐check codes for ultra reliable low latency communications

open access: yesElectronics Letters
A novel channel code, the low‐density algebra‐check (LDAC) code, is introduced in this letter. LDAC code is constructed by combining sparse matrice with algebraic constraints from two types of subcodes. Detailed explanations for the encoding and decoding

Decoding of Convolutional Codes over the Erasure Channel

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper we study the decoding capabilities of convolutional codes over the erasure channel. Of special interest will be maximum distance profile (MDP) convolutional codes. These are codes which have a maximum possible column distance increase.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
