Performance of block Markov superposition transmission over non-Gaussian impulsive channels

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2019
Block Markov superposition transmission scheme was used over channels with symmetric alpha-stable (SαS) impulsive noise.Based on the equivalent genie-aided system, the lower bound of the block Markov superposition transmission system was analyzed ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Double symbol error rate and block error rate of MDPSK

open access: yesDouble symbol error rate and block error rate of MDPSK
The double symbol error rate (DSER) is calculated for an M-ary DPSK (MDPSK) system to show that double symbol errors are less likely to be produced when M>or=4 than for the binary case (M=2) and that MDPSK with M>or=4 provides similar conditional SER (defined as the SER when the previous symbol decision was in error) when compared at the same SER value.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Low-Complexity Decoding of Block Turbo-Coded System with Antenna Diversity

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2003
The goal of this paper is to reduce the decoding complexity of space-time block turbo-coded system with low performance degradation. Two block turbo-coded systems with antenna diversity are considered.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Block Error Rate Minimization of Downlink MIMO‐NOMA With Finite Blocklength

open access: yesElectronics Letters
ABSTRACT As a promising technology for 6G networks, non‐orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) can improve spectral efficiency by sharing the same time‐frequency resource of multiple users. However, most existing NOMA schemes assume infinite blocklength, leading to suboptimal performance in practical finite blocklength scenarios.
