The Blockchain Folk Theorem [PDF]

open access: yesThe Review of Financial Studies, 2018
Blockchains are distributed ledgers, operated within peer-to-peer networks. We model the proof-of-work blockchain protocol as a stochastic game and analyze the equilibrium strategies of rational, strategic miners. Mining the longest chain is a Markov perfect equilibrium, without forking, in line with Nakamoto (2008).

Selecting Reliable Blockchain Peers via Hybrid Blockchain Reliability Prediction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Blockchain and blockchain-based decentralized applications are attracting increasing attentions recently. In public blockchain systems, users usually connect to third-party peers or run a peer to join the P2P blockchain network. However, connecting to unreliable blockchain peers will make users waste resources and even lose millions of dollars of ...

The Blockchain Paradox

open access: yes, 2019
Abstract Abstract This contribution deals with the problem of interoperability of blockchain technologies. Building on the framework offered by Lawrence Lessig, it will be argued that interoperability cannot be viewed as a simple matter of technological design.

A Logic of Blockchain Updates [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Blockchains are distributed data structures that are used to achieve consensus in systems for cryptocurrencies (like Bitcoin) or smart contracts (like Ethereum). Although blockchains gained a lot of popularity recently, there is no logic-based model for blockchains available.

State sharding model on the blockchain [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Blockchain is an incrementally updated ledger maintained by distributed nodes rather than centralized organizations. The current blockchain technology faces scalability issues, which include two aspects: low transaction throughput and high storage capacity costs. This paper studies the blockchain structure based on state sharding technology, and mainly
