Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Atmospheric blocking and mean biases in climate models [PDF]
Models often underestimate blocking in the Atlantic and Pacific basins and this can lead to errors in both weather and climate predictions. Horizontal resolution is often cited as the main culprit for blocking errors due to poorly resolved small-scale ...

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

A Constraint on the x Dependence of the Light Antiquarks Ratio [PDF]
We perform a careful study on the effect of the Pauli blocking to the light antiquark structure of the proton sea. We develop the formal expressions for the antiquark distributions, highlighting the role played by quark statistics and the vacuum ...

Asymptotic expansions for blocks estimators: PoT framework [PDF]
We consider disjoint and sliding blocks estimators of cluster indices for multivariate, regularly varying time series in the Peak-over-Threshold framework. We aim to provide a complete description of the limiting behaviour of these estimators. This is achieved by a precise expansion for the difference between the sliding and the disjoint blocks ...

The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...

The elusive nature of the blocking effect: 15 failures to replicate [PDF]
With the discovery of the blocking effect, learning theory took a huge leap forward, because blocking provided a crucial clue that surprise is what drives learning.

Spectral Statistics of Sample Block Correlation Matrices [PDF]
A fundamental concept in multivariate statistics, sample correlation matrix, is often used to infer the correlation/dependence structure among random variables, when the population mean and covariance are unknown. A natural block extension of it, {\it sample block correlation matrix}, is proposed to take on the same role, when random variables are ...

A stepwise emergence of evolution in the RNA world
How did biological evolution emerge from chemical reactions? This perspective proposes a gradual scenario of self‐organization among RNA molecules, where catalytic feedback on random mixtures plays the central role. Short oligomers cross‐ligate, and self‐assembly enables heritable variations. An event of template‐externalization marks the transition to

Asymptotic expansions for sums of block-variables under weak dependence [PDF]
Let $\{X_i\}_{i=-\infty}^{\infty}$ be a sequence of random vectors and $Y_{in}=f_{in}(\mathcal{X}_{i,\ell})$ be zero mean block-variables where $\mathcal{X}_{i,\ell}=(X_i,...,X_{i+\ell-1}),i\geq 1$, are overlapping blocks of length $\ell$ and where $f_{in}$ are Borel measurable functions.
