Blood coagulation factors in the elderly
Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics, 1989To investigate causes of the age-dependent increase of thromboembolic events, plasma coagulation parameters were determined in healthy elderly blood donors in comparison with young, and elderly diseased blood donors. Partial thromboplastin and thrombin clotting times were slightly shortened, whereas prothrombin and reptilase clotting times were ...

Assay of Blood Coagulation Factors in Heparinized Blood*
Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1964SummaryTechnics have been devised permitting assay of certain coagulation factors in blood despite the presence of heparin in the sample. In the process of developing these methods, heparin and Polybrene were added to whole blood or plasma in varions quantities and a large number of coagulation tests then performed.

Inhibitors of blood coagulation factor XIII
Analytical Biochemistry, 2020The blood coagulation factor XIII (FXIII) plays an essential role in the stabilization of fibrin clots. This factor, belonging to the class of transglutaminases, catalyzes the final step of secondary hemostasis, i.e. the crosslinking of fibrin polymers. These crosslinks protect the clots against premature fibrinolysis.

The Effect of Arvin on Blood Coagulation Factors
British Journal of Haematology, 1968The effect of Arvin on blood coagulation factors was studied both in vitro and in patients undergoing therapeutic defibrination. Clots produced in citrated or EDTA plasma were soluble in 5 M urea, but rendered insoluble by prior incubation with calcium. Clots produced in heparinized plasma were urea‐soluble, even in the presence of excess calcium ions.

Blood coagulation factors as inflammatory mediators
Blood Cells, Molecules, and Diseases, 2005After the first observations about blood coagulation by Hippocrates, it took until the early 1900s before the classic theory of blood coagulation was presented. As more and more other coagulation factors were discovered, the four-factor coagulation scheme became more complex, but better understood, leading to the current coagulation cascade.
