Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic in metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this exploratory study, we investigated the relationship between the gut microbiota and outcome in patients with metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer, treated in a randomized clinical trial with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.

Hematological parameters of the blood count in a healthy population of pregnant women in the Northwest of Morocco (Tetouan-M'diq-Fnideq provinces)

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2018
INTRODUCTION: Numerous biological parameters are physiologically modified during normal pregnancy, in particular hematology. The knowledge of these modifications of the maternal body by biologists and clinicians allows the screening of possible anomalies.

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Ten Years Evaluation of the Relationship Between the Individual Dose of Hospital Workers Occupationally Exposed to X-Rays and its Leukocyte and Platelet Counts of the CBC Tests

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences
The occupational health assessment of workers exposed to ionizing radiation is done through Complete Blood Count (CBC) tests in some countries, although studies have shown that this biomarker does not show evidence of exposition to low dose radiation. It

Inhibition of CDK9 enhances AML cell death induced by combined venetoclax and azacitidine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The CDK9 inhibitor AZD4573 downregulates c‐MYC and MCL‐1 to induce death of cytarabine (AraC)‐resistant AML cells. This enhances VEN + AZA‐induced cell death significantly more than any combination of two of the three drugs in AraC‐resistant AML cells.

Preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and outcome from coronary artery bypass grafting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background: An elevated preoperative white blood cell count has been associated with a worse outcome after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Leukocyte subtypes, and particularly the neutrophil-lymphocyte (N/L) ratio, may however, convey superior ...

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

The Role of Complete Blood Count-Derived Inflammatory Biomarkers as Predictors of Infection After Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Single-Center Retrospective Study

open access: yesMedicina
Background and Objectives: Although a wide range of hematological parameters are used as blood-based inflammatory biomarkers, the role of complete blood count-derived inflammatory biomarkers in infection after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is modest ...
