In vivo photoacoustic flowmetry in the optical diffusive regime based on saline injection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We propose a saline-injection-based method to quantify blood flow velocity in vivo with acoustic-resolution photoacoustic tomography. By monitoring the saline-blood-interface propagating in the blood vessel, we can resolve the flow velocity.

Flow characteristics of the proximal pulmonary arteries and vena cava in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension: correlation between 3.0 T phase-contrast MRI and right heart catheterization

open access: yesDiagnostic and Interventional Radiology, 2014
PURPOSEWe aimed to determine the correlation between flow characteristics of the proximal pulmonary arteries and vena cava obtained by 3.0 T phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and hemodynamic characteristics by right heart catheterization in

Uncoupling of Microvascular Blood Flow and Capillary Density in Vascular Cognitive Impairment

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2019
Cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) plays an important role in dementia and is a major cause for vascular cognitive impairment (VCI). Recent studies hypothesized that capillary dysfunction including reduction of capillary patency, rather than a flow ...

Functional Ultrasound Speckle Decorrelation‐Based Velocimetry of the Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2020
A high‐speed, contrast‐free, quantitative ultrasound velocimetry (vUS) for blood flow velocity imaging throughout the rodent brain is developed based on the normalized first‐order temporal autocorrelation function of the ultrasound field signal.

Clinical Phenotyping of Long COVID Patients Evaluated in a Specialized Neuro‐COVID Clinic

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To report Long COVID characteristics and longitudinal courses of patients evaluated between 4/14/21–4/14/22 at the University of Pennsylvania Neurological COVID Clinic (PNCC), including clinical symptoms, neurological examination findings, and neurocognitive screening tests from a standardized PNCC neurological evaluation approach ...

Navier-Stokes Modelling of Non-Newtonian Blood Flow in Cerebral Arterial Circulation and its Dynamic Impact on Electrical Conductivity in a Realistic Multi-Compartment Head Model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Background and Objective: This study aims to evaluate the dynamic effect of non-Newtonian cerebral arterial circulation on electrical conductivity distribution (ECD) in a realistic multi-compartment head model. It addresses the importance and challenges associated with electrophysiological modalities, such as transcranial electrical stimulation ...

Influence of Hyperpyrexia on Velocity of Blood Flow.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1933
ConclusionsDuring hyperpyrexia, induced by radiothermy, there is an acceleration of the velocity of blood flow.

Cyclical variations in cerebral blood flow velocity. [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 1991
Because little is known about spontaneous changes in cerebral blood flow in neonates, a newly developed online Doppler technique was used to insonate continuously the middle cerebral arteries of a group of sick (n = 20) and full term healthy (n = 16) newborn infants for a period of one minute. A total of 290 recordings of epochs each lasting one minute

The effect of high and low amplitudes during whole body vibration on lower leg arterial blood flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Whole body vibration (WBV) is a technique that has been shown to induce positive blood flow changes, however little is known about the effect of different vibration amplitudes on arterial blood flow. Purpose.

The Importance of Velocity Acceleration to Flow-Mediated Dilation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Vascular Medicine, 2012
The validity of the flow-mediated dilation test has been questioned due to the lack of normalization to the primary stimulus, shear stress. Shear stress can be calculated using Poiseuille's law.
