Every Drop Counts: Quantifying Blood Loss Can Lead to Early Detection and Intervention for Postpartum Hemorrhage [PDF]
A visual estimation has been the standard measurement for blood loss post vaginal or cesarean section delivery. Research has shown that visual estimation also known as estimated blood loss has led to an underestimation of total blood loss volume.

MIF as an oncogenic driver of low‐heterogeneity melanomas
Shvefel and colleagues identified tumor‐secreted macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) as an upregulated cytokine that mediates immune resistance in melanomas with low‐intratumoral heterogeneity. MIF and its functional paralogue D‐dopachrome tautomerase (D‐DT or MIF‐2) have overlapping but nonidentical signaling functions and are hypothesized to

Estimation of Blood Loss in Total Knee Arthroplasty with or Without Tourniquet
Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a procedure performed for end stage knee osteoarthritis to reinstate leg function, pain control and improve quality of life. The surgery, however, is associated with a substantial risk of concealed blood loss

HDAC4 regulates apoptosis in Acan‐CreERT2;HDAC4d/d mice with osteoarthritis by downregulating ATF4
Using the AcanCreERT2;HDAC4fl/fl genetic mouse model, we further investigated the role of histone deacetylase 4 (HDAC4) in chondrocyte apoptosis. We found that knocking down HDAC4 may be associated with chondrocyte apoptosis by upregulating the activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4)/CAAT/enhancer binding protein homologous (CHOP) signaling pathway ...

A potential tumor suppressor role of PLK2 in glioblastoma
PLK2 was consistently downregulated in GBM tissues. Overexpression of PLK2 in GBM cell lines U87MG and U251 reduced their tumorigenic potential and enhanced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Suggesting that PLK2 overexpression could potentially be leveraged as a therapeutic strategy to inhibit tumor progression and enhance apoptosis, providing new ...

Multimodal Analysis of White Blood Cell Differentiation in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Patients using a β-Variational Autoencoder [PDF]
Biomedical imaging and RNA sequencing with single-cell resolution improves our understanding of white blood cell diseases like leukemia. By combining morphological and transcriptomic data, we can gain insights into cellular functions and trajectoriess involved in blood cell differentiation.

Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.
