Nutrition-related determinants of blood pressure

Preventive Medicine, 1985
The importance of high blood pressure as a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) has led to extensive research in the etiology of hypertension. Regulation of blood pressure (BP) in humans involves many different organs and physiological processes that contribute either directly to the determination of BP level or indirectly by modifying ...

DETERMINATION OF BLOOD PRESSURE AT THE ANKLE

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1954
In the routine study of patients with hypertension, the determination of the blood pressure in the legs is now recognized as a necessity. Usually this pressure is obtained by placing a large, specially constructed blood pressure cuff around the thigh and auscultating over the popliteal artery.

Genetic determinants of blood pressure regulation

Journal of Hypertension, 2005
Hypertension is a multifactorial disorder that probably results from the inheritance of a number of susceptibility genes and involves multiple environmental determinants. Existing evidence suggests that the genetic contribution to blood pressure variation is about 30-50%.

Determinants of blood pressure in Jerusalem schoolchildren

Preventive Medicine, 1984
In 1982, 113 first- and second-graders attending an elementary school in West Jerusalem had their blood pressure (BP), height, weight, and resting pulse measured. Three successive BP readings were taken. The mean of the second and third readings was used for data analysis.

Determinants of blood pressure in childhood and adolescence

Journal of Hypertension, 1989
Relationships between blood pressure and dietary factors were investigated in 434 boys and 450 girls aged 9 years. Dietary data were obtained from a food-frequency questionnaire which was completed by parents. This was used to estimate daily energy intake and the intake of 14 nutrients considered likely to influence blood pressure.

Blood pressure determination in children

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1939
Summary When one plots the readings for systolic pressure obtained with cuffs of different widths by the usual auscultatory methods against the cuff width, a curve is obtained which is characteristic for each individual. in most cases, it rises sharply as one passes to successively narrower cuffs, and flattens out in the region of wide cuffs.

Determinants of Blood Pressure in the First Decades of Life

Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1990
The blood pressure (BP) in children has been studied since the beginning of this century, and in the past decade the potential association between childhood BP levels and adult hypertension has gained increasing interest. From several longitudinal studies, many of them comprising large numbers of children and youngsters, it appears that the BP of ...

Recommendations for Blood Pressure Determination by Sphygmomanometry

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1988
Excerpt How many times each day does the average internist take a patient's blood pressure? How many more times each day does the internist review blood pressure measurements obtained by others?

Implantable accelerometer for determination of blood pressure

2013 Transducers & Eurosensors XXVII: The 17th International Conference on Solid-State Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems (TRANSDUCERS & EUROSENSORS XXVII), 2013
We present a new method to continuously monitor blood pressure using an acceleration sensor which is implanted on an artery using minimally invasive techniques, and which does not limit the mobility of a patient in everyday life. It is demonstrated by in vivo experiments that the reflected wave transit time (RWTT) can be reliably determined from ...

Implantable acceleration plethysmography for blood pressure determination

2013 35th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2013
This paper presents an implantable accelerometer which detects plethysmograms directly at an artery. The sensor provides a new method for continuous blood pressure monitoring. In vivo measurements indicate that the accelerometer is well suited for determining the Pulse Transit Time (PTT) and the Reflected Wave Transit Time (RWTT).
