Applicability of electronic sphygmomanometer use in high-altitude areas according to the AAMI/ESH/ISO collaboration statement

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
ObjectiveMercury sphygmomanometer (MS) has now been less and less used and no new devices have been manufactured (according to Minamata convention 2013). The application of the electronic sphygmomanometer (ES) in clinical practice has become increasingly

A Highly Sensitive Pressure-Sensing Array for Blood Pressure Estimation Assisted by Machine-Learning Techniques

open access: yesSensors, 2019
This work describes the development of a pressure-sensing array for noninvasive continuous blood pulse-wave monitoring. The sensing elements comprise a conductive polymer film and interdigital electrodes patterned on a flexible Parylene C substrate.

Clinical guidelines as plans: An ontological theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Clinical guidelines are special types of plans realized by collective agents. We provide an ontological theory of such plans that is designed to support the construction of a framework in which guideline-based information systems can be employed in the ...

The intraocular pressure response to dehydration: a pilot study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This study was designed to determine the Intraocular Pressure (IOP) response to differing levels of dehydration. Seven males participated in a 90 minute treadmill walk (5 km/h and 1 % grade) in both a cool (22 °C) and hot (43 °C) climate. At Baseline and

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Pressure ramp programmer; IMBLMS Phase B4 Additional Tasks: Task 3.0 pressure ramp programmer [PDF]

open access: yes
A pressure ramp programmer model was designed, fabricated and tested. This model, in conjunction with an automatic blood pressure monitor, automatically controls the pressure in the blood pressure monitor arterial cuff.

Blood serum osmotic and ionic regulation of wild adults and reared juvenile Persian sturgeon, Acipenser persicus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The osmoregulatory system was studied in wild adult and reared juvenile Persian sturgeon, Acipenser persicus. The mean osmolarity in blood serum of specimens from the Caspian Sea, estuary, the Kouraneski pools and the rearing tanks were 305.3±14.3, 308.7±

Different behaviour of the N-terminal and C-terminal fragment of proatrial natriuretic factor in plasma of healthy subjects as well as of patients with cirrhosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
N-terminal (atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) 1-98) and C-terminal (ANF 99-126) fragments of proatrial natriuretic factor (NTA and CTA, respectively) were determined in plasma of healthy subjects adopting different postures and in patients with cirrhosis ...

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Cardiovascular complications markers in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The increase of blood pressure (BP) is the main risk factor of cardiovascular complications (CVC) for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). There are also other markers of these complications such as glycated hemoglobin (HbA1с), dyslipidemia ...
