Cellular liquid biopsy provides unique chances for disease monitoring, preclinical model generation and therapy adjustment in rare salivary gland cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We quantified and cultured circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of 62 patients with various cancer types and generated CTC‐derived tumoroid models from two salivary gland cancer patients. Cellular liquid biopsy‐derived information enabled molecular genetic assessment of systemic disease heterogeneity and functional testing for therapy selection in both ...

Is there a need to redo many of the diagnoses of hypertension?

open access: yesSão Paulo Medical Journal
CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Most hypertensive subjects undergoing treatment were diagnosed solely through measurements made in the consultation office. The objective of this study was to redo the diagnosis of treated patients after new clinical measurements ...

Blood Pressure and Blood Protein Determinations in the Frog.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1928
In a previous note,1 the authors called attention to the low protein content of frog's blood. The low colloidal pressure of the blood is an important factor in determining the production of urine. The blood pressure of the frog is not nearly as high as in mammals, but if filtration is the basis of glomerular activity, there should be enough pressure to

The Understanding of Intertwined Physics: Discovering Capillary Pressure and Permeability Co-Determination [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Although capillary and permeability are the two most important physical properties controlling fluid distribution and flow in nature, the interconnectivity function between them was a pressing challenge. Because knowing permeability leads to determining capillary pressure. Geodynamics (e.g., subsurface water, CO2 sequestration) and organs (e.g., plants,

Integrative systems‐level analysis reveals a contextual crosstalk between hypoxia and global metabolism in human breast tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.

Mjerenje arterijskoga tlaka - ne mari za male stvari i ostat će male stvari?! Preporuke Hrvatskoga referalnog centra za hipertenziju centra izvrsnosti Europskog društva za hipertenziju [Blood pressure measurement - do not sweat the small stuff and it is all small stuff?! Position paper of the Croatian national referral center for hypertension, center of excellence of the European Society of Hypertension] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Office blood pressure measurement using mercury sphygmomanometer is the gold standard for making diagnoses of hypertension, evaluation of cardiovascular risk and estimation of obtained control of treated hypertensives.

Targeted metabolomics reveals novel diagnostic biomarkers for colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed targeted metabolomic profiling to identify 302 distinct metabolites present in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), revealing aberrant metabolic profiles amongst individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC). Compared to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen 19‐9 (CA199), our metabolite panel showed improved sensitivity ...

Indirect measurement of arterial blood pressure: physiotherapists’ theoretical knowledge [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira em Promoção da Saúde, 2003
Blood pressure checking and its theoretical knowledge are crucial to obtain reliable data in clinical examination. Although it is considered a simple technique to be learned and applied, it is not fully dealt with at physiotherapy university courses ...
