EFFECT OF CASTRATION IN MAN UPON BLOOD SEDIMENTATION RATE, HEMATOCRIT AND HEMOGLOBIN.
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1964The suspension stability of blood and values for hematocrit and hemoglobin were significantly less in castrate than in intact males. The differences between these 2 groups of subjects tended to decrease with advancing age.

Blood sediment formation at high haematocrit
SPIE Proceedings, 2003We present the results of investigation of red blood sediment formation with to use of an optical technique. Blood standing in a container separates with time into clear plasma and red blood cell fraction. The intensity of the light transmitted by the red blood sediment at low and high haematocrit was measured.

During 18 years (since January 1955) short and long term fluctuations in the physico‐chemical state of the blood of healthy male blood donors have been studied by the Biometeorological Research Centre in Leiden, since 1966 also in Oslo and since 1968 in ...

The fluid mechanics of blood: equilibrium and sedimentation
Clinical Physics and Physiological Measurement, 1982A continuum physics theory of blood in equilibrium and sedimentation is presented, based on the observed behaviour of blood using high-speed photography. Present interpretation of the rheological behaviour of blood is based on particulate suspension theory.

Monitoring of blood sedimentation by a multiplexed light transmission method
, 2006In this work a method that monitors the dynamics of blood sedimentation using a light transmission method is presented. This technique consists of the illumination of a whole capillary column of blood using a laser and detecting the transmitted light at ...

Blood sedimentation rate in allergic disease
Journal of Allergy, 1933Abstract 1.1. In a series of 150 allergic patients, in all of whom the allergic diagnosis was definitely established, there were only 14 patients with abnormally slow sedimentation rates, or 9.3 per cent of the total. 2.2. There was a predominance of hay fever cases in the group with slow sedimentation, and a predominance of asthma in the normal ...

The blood sedimentation test in a tuberculosis dispensary
Irish Journal of Medical Science, 1944(1) The value of the blood sedimentation test is discussed in relation to the work of a tuberculosis clinic. (2) Using the Westergren technique one hour readings between 0-2 mm. render most unlikely, and between 3-5 mm. furnish strong evi-dence against, the presence of tuberculosis ; when over 20 mm.
