Feasibility of a ctDNA multigenic panel for non‐small‐cell lung cancer early detection and disease surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Plasma‐based detection of actionable mutations is a promising approach in lung cancer management. Analysis of ctDNA with a multigene NGS panel identified TP53, KRAS, and EGFR as the most frequently altered, with TP53 and KRAS in treatment‐naïve patients and TP53 and EGFR in previously treated patients.

Constitutive interaction between neutrophils and von Willebrand factor in peripheral blood

open access: yesScientific Reports
Neutrophils are known to be able to recruit von Willebrand factor (VWF) through Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs) during inflammation. However, the interaction between neutrophils with plasma VWF at physiological condition remains poorly understood ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Specific immunoassays confirm association of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis with type-1 but not type-2 diabetes mellitus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) is a versatile pathogen with a broad host range. Its association with type-1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) has been recently proposed.

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...

Establishment of an induced pluripotent stem cell line from a patient with X-linked Alport syndrome carrying a hemizygous splicing variant (NM_033380; c.929[exon 16]delG) in the collagen type IV alpha 5 chain gene

open access: yesStem Cell Research
X-linked hereditary Alport syndrome (XLAS) type 1 (OMIM: 301050) results from a pathogenic variant in the collagen type IV alpha 5 chain (COL4A5) gene.A human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line was generated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells

Development of an Assay for Detection of Non-Targeted Radiation Effects

open access: yesDose-Response, 2006
An adaptive response may be defined as the effect of a small priming dose of radiation modifying the anticipated cellular response of the same tissues so as to alter the predicted response to a larger dose of radiation.

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).
