VALUE OF BLOOD VOLUME DETERMINATIONS IN GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASE

Archives of Surgery, 1953
THE THEORETICAL basis for blood volume studies in surgical patients has been well established by many investigators.1More recently, Lyons and his co-workers2have been responsible for reemphasizing the physiologic and therapeutic implications gained from these measurements.

Effect of circulatory states on determinations of blood volume [PDF]

open access: possibleThe American Journal of Medicine, 1953
T HE blood volume is the sum of the volume of plasma and volume of cells in the circulatory system. The technics that have been devised for estimating blood volume in the living animal or in man depend on the measurement of the volume distribution of a known amount of some suitable test substance introduced into the blood stream.

The blood volume in the lower extremities. A technique for its determination utilizing Cr-51 tagged red cells.

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. American volume, 1962
A technique for the determination of the total blood volume in the lower extremities has been presented. The average blood volume of a single normal lower extremity was found to be 9.3 x 100/95 per cent (± 3 per cent) of the total blood volume.

Whole Blood Volume Determinations-Reply

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1974
To the Editor. —As Dr. Willard noted, we measured the red blood cell (RBC) volume with sodium chromate Cr 51 autologous RBC only. There was no loss of 51 Cr-labeled autologous RBC during the one-hour post-infusion period in our patients without splenomegaly. With iodinated I 125 serum albumin, the plasma volume was overestimated in patients.

Effects of Rest and Exercise on Cardiac Blood Volume Determinations [PDF]

open access: possibleNuklearmedizin, 1997
Summary Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in blood activity during rest, exercise and recovery, and to assess its influence on left ventricular (LV) volume determination using the count-based method requiring blood sampling.

BLOOD VOLUME AND EXTRACELLULAR FLUID VOLUME OF INFANTS AND CHILDREN: STUDIES WITH AN IMPROVED DYE MICROMETHOD FOR DETERMINATION OF BLOOD VOLUME

, 1940
A method for the determination of brilliant vital red in plasma has been described previously by one of us. 1 In the present study we have attempted to show that the method is simple and accurate, that it may be used for determination of blood volume and

On the Determination of the Blood Volume by the CO‐Method

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1942
Summary. The CO‐method for determining the blood volume has been tested under various conditions. When the CO is rebreathed from an ordinary metabolism apparatus (Krogh‐apparatus or Benedict‐Roth apparatus) constant values can be obtained after 10–15 minutes of rebreathing, also during moderate work.

Micro-determination of Insect Blood Volume

Nature, 1966
METHODS of estimating insect blood volume depend either on haemocyte counts before and after an injection of a measured volume of saline or on the dilution of amaranth dye by the haemolymph1. The latter method has been recommended for repeatable and consistent results with locusts2.

Determination of circulating blood volume using PIXE

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1981
Abstract The determination of the circulating blood volume using the PIXE method for measuring the time variation of the tracer concentration is described. The stable atomic tracer contained in widely-used drugs is introduced into the vascular system by injection. Two drugs containing bromine and iodine as tracers were tested.

Regional blood volume in man determined by radiolabeled erythrocytes

Clinical Physiology, 1988
SummaryThe purpose of the present study was to develop a non‐invasive method capable of measuring the regional blood volume in the peripheral circulation. External counting of autologous radiolabeled erythrocytes was performed by dynamic scintigraphy of the calf. During short venous stasis synchronous changes in segmental blood volumes were recorded by
