Blowout Fracture of the Orbit

Postgraduate Medicine, 1967
A blowout fracture occurs when a blow to the eye pushes the intact globe posteriorly into the narrow portion of the bony orbit. The impact momentarily increases intra-orbital pressure so that the orbital contents herniate through the orbital floor into the maxillary sinus. Symptoms and radiographic findings are described.

Comminuted orbital blowout fracture after vigorous nose blowing that required repair

open access: yesBritish Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2010
A fracture of the orbital floor as a result of nose blowing is rare and we know of only three reported cases. We present a 40-year-old man who required repair of a blowout fracture of the orbital floor as a result of vigorous nose blowing.

Blowout Fractures of the Orbital Floor

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1966
Six patients with blowout fractures of the orbital floor, not associated with infraorbital rim fractures, are presented. Diplopia, infraorbital anesthesia and enophthalmos following blunt trauma to the eye should alert the examiner to the possibility of a blowout fracture with incarceration of extraocular tissues.

Simulated Blowout Fracture of the Orbit

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1983
SUMMARY A case of probable traumatic simulated Brown's syndrome, in which there was a false positive orbital tomogram, is presented. To our knowledge, this combination of findings has not been previously reported. The deceptive clinical signs combined with the false positive radiologic data led to the erroneous diagnosis of blowout fracture ...

Blowout Fractures of the Orbit

The British Journal of Radiology, 1966
A discussion of the anatomic concepts, mechanism or causation, and radiological signs of orbital blowout fracture has been given. It is advocated that a complete radiological examination be done on these patients who have experienced orbital trauma. Views taken should include a posteroanterior and lateral skull series, bilateral views of the orbital ...

Gelfilm and blowout fractures

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1976
A variety of alloplastic and natural substances have been utilized for support of the orbital floor following a blowout fracture. The employment of Gelfilm is herein recommended for the smaller floor defects. Sterile Gelfilm is manufactured from denaturated collagen, is 0.075 mm. thick, and is known to be tolerated well by ocular tissues.

Diplopia and Enophthalmos in Blowout Fractures

Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2012
The aim of this study was to compare the changes of diplopia and enophthalmos in patients with blowout fractures. Three hundred sixty-two patients who presented with blowout fractures between March 2006 and February 2011 were analyzed. The sequential time changes of diplopia and enophthalmos were measured in the operated group and the observed group ...

Blindness Following Blowout Orbital Fractures

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1977
SUMMARY Blindness following blowout fractures is an unfortunate complication. The ophthalmologist must be aware of the events and sites of injury to the optic nerve which lead to visual problems. Preventive measures include immediate recognition of the signs of impending optic nerve compression and execution of treatment without ...
