We investigated the relationship between the blue-light photoreceptor cryptochrome (CRY) and melatonin biosynthesis by generating RNA interference (RNAi) transgenic rice plants that suppress the cryptochrome 1b gene (CRY1b). The resulting CRY1b RNAi rice

A Comparison of the Intrinsic Shapes of Two Different Types of Dwarf Galaxies: Blue Compact Dwarfs and Dwarf Ellipticals [PDF]
We measure the apparent shapes for a sample of 62 blue compact dwarf galaxies (BCDs), and compare them with the apparent shapes for a sample of 80 dwarf elliptical galaxies (dEs). The BCDs are flatter, on average, than the dEs, but the difference is only marginally significant.

Infrared Spectroscopy of Blue Dwarf Galaxies
We present a survey of the near-infrared emission lines of eight blue dwarf galaxies. These galaxies have advantages for study of the excitation of the interstellar medium by starbursts because the effects are relatively undiluted by the quiescent stellar population, the star formation episodes usually appear to be of short duration, and the effects of

Asteroseismology of the ZZ Ceti and DAZ GD133
GD 133 is a DAZ white dwarf with an atmosphere polluted by heavy elements accreted from a debris disk, which is formed by the disruption of rocky planetesimals with orbits bringing them at the white dwarf tidal radius.

The Metallicity and Distance of Leo A from Blue Supergiants
We have obtained high-quality spectra of blue supergiant candidates in the dwarf irregular galaxy Leo A with the Low Resolution Imaging Spectrometer at the Keck I telescope.

Properties of the Dwarf Galaxy Population in Galaxy Clusters [PDF]
We present the observational properties of the dwarf galaxy population (Mr > M*+1) corresponding to one of the largest samples of spectroscopically confirmed galaxy cluster members reported in the literature. We have observed that red dwarf galaxies (u-r > 2.22) share the same cluster environment as the brightest cluster members (Mr < -21), but are not

Integral Field Spectroscopy of Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies [PDF]
We present results on integral-field optical spectroscopy of five luminous Blue Compact Dwarf galaxies. The data were obtained using the fiber system INTEGRAL attached at the William Herschel telescope. The galaxies Mrk 370, Mrk 35, Mrk 297, Mrk 314 and III Zw 102 were observed.
