SHEEP MORTALITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE BLUE GREEN ALGA: NODULARIA SPUMIGENA

Australian Veterinary Journal, 1977
SUMMARY: In 2 field mortalities studied, sheep died and showed haemorrhage and diffuse liver necrosis after drinking water from dams containing growths of the blue green algae Nodularia. Sheep dosed with water containing N. spumigena Mart 5, 9 and 18 days after collection from one of the farm dams developed pyrexia and leucopenia before death.

Taxonomic status of Chinese blue sheep (Pseudois nayaur): new evidence of a distinct subspecies.

Integrative Zoology, 2019
Blue sheep (Pseudois nayaur) is an endemic species to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and surrounding regions. It has been regarded as having two subspecies: P. n. nayaur and P. n. szechuanensis. However, such a classification remains controversial. Herein, we

Toxicity to mice and sheep of a bloom of the cyanobacterium (blue - green alga) Anabaena circinalis

Toxicon, 1988
A bloom of Anabaena circinalis shown to be lethal to mice (i.p. LD50 17.0 +/- 0.6 mg/kg) was tested for lethal potency when given orally to mice and intraruminally and intraperitoneally to sheep. The lethal oral dose in mice was at least 170 times the parenteral dose. The bloom was lethal when given i.p.

Blue sheep in the Annapurna Conservation Area, Nepal: habitat use, population biomass and their contribution to the carrying capacity of snow leopards.

Integrative Zoology, 2014
The Himalaya region of Nepal provides a habitat for the endangered snow leopard (Panthera uncia) and its principal prey species, the blue sheep (Pseudois nayaur).

Age changes in Alcian blue staining of glycosaminoglycans in sheep articular cartilage

Research in Veterinary Science, 1977
Alcian blue staining of glycosaminoglycans in sheep articular cartilage is described and discussed. Chodrocytes contain mainly low molecular weight chondroitin sulphate in the outer layers but keratan sulphate increases with depth. Protein-polysaccharide interaction increases with age but the cellular staining decreases in intensity with age.

Is trophy hunting of bharal (blue sheep) and Himalayan tahr contributing to their conservation in Nepal

, 2015
Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve (DHR), the only hunting reserve in Nepal, is famous for trophy hunting of bharal or ‘blue sheep’ ( Pseudois nayaur ) and Himalayan tahr ( Hemitragus jemlahicus ). Although trophy hunting has been occurring in DHR since 1987, its

The tissue distribution of Evans blue dye in a sheep model of sentinel node biopsy

Nuclear Medicine Communications, 2006
Tc-Evans blue is a 'single dose' agent for lymphatic mapping combining radioactivity and blue dye for sentinel node identification. The mechanism and distribution of blue dye retention in the lymph node is not clearly understood. To demonstrate the cellular distribution of Tc-Evans blue in sheep sentinel lymph nodes by measuring the radioactivity of ...

Ecology and habitat utilisation of blue sheep Pseudois nayaur in nepal

Biological Conservation, 1981
Abstract Observations of blue sheep Pseudois nayaur habitat utilisation are described with regard to habitat type, slope, aspect, altitude, human land-use practices, and predators. An increasing population of 800–900 sheep was observed in a 960 km2 hunting reserve southwest of the Dhaulagiri Range.
